AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers Standings: Singapore qualifies; India suffers another defeat

India lost to Bangladesh on Tuesday.
The fifth matchday in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers was eventful for Group C, as Singapore secured their qualification for the AFC Asian Cup, while Bangladesh edged India at their home. Ashley Westwood sealed Singapore’s fate with a stunning win against Hong Kong.
This is only the second time Singapore have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup. They qualified for the continental tournament last time in 1984. While it was a memorable night for Singapore, the night in Dhaka was a tragedy for the Blue Tigers.
Singapore qualifies, Hong Kong falter
The points table in Group C has been locked with Singapore confirming their qualification. They will not be dethroned as they have secured more points than any other team. Singapore have won three out of five matches in the qualifiers. The remaining matches ended in a stalemate. With 11 points, their place at the top is intact.
Hong Kong are in second position with 8 points. They will miss out on the qualification for the AFC Asian Cup regardless of whether they win against India in March next year. Hong Kong faced their first defeat in the qualifiers on Tuesday. With this defeat, they have two wins, two losses, and a draw.
