Subroto Cup 2024 to commence from August 5

The Subroto Cup International football tournament is synonymous with youth football development, an absolute powerhouse of inter-school football from all corners of the globe. The 62nd edition of the prestigious tournament saw the young buds fighting their heart out in three categories – Junior Boys U-17, Junior Girls (U-17) and sub-junior boys (U-14).

The same format of different age-restricted categories is to be followed at the 63rd edition of the youth galore competition. 

The Air Force Sports Control Board with the help of AIFF is all set to host the next edition of the tournament and the excitement is through the roof. The tournament will be played on a league cum knock-out basis and following laws of the game as framed by FIFA as adopted by AIFF & Services Sports Control Board (SSCB). Let us look at the key dates that will see some exhilarating clashes of teen titans on the football pitch.

Subroto Cup 2024 dates and schedule

The Subroto Cup 2024 is set to commence on August 5 and will see the best school teams gather to fight for pride and glory in the vibrant city of New Delhi. The tournament will be flagged off with an opening ceremony on the day. That will follow the kick-off with the U-17 (Junior) Girls’ category. The category-wise important dates include:

Junior Girls (U-17): Commencement on 5th August 2024

The final on 14th August 2024

Sub Junior Boys (U-15): Commencement on 19th August 2024

The final on 28th August 2024

Junior Boys (U-17): Commencement on 2nd September 2024

The final on 11th September 2024

The closing ceremony will be held on 11th September.

History and its importance

The legendary annual event was named after the legendary and visionary Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee. The inaugural tournament took place in 1960, with around 50 school teams participating.

With time the number of participating school teams grew and, apart from the existing U-17 boys category, two new categories followed seeing the competition’s stature.

Subroto Cup’s legacy is immense as it has helped legendary players like Bhaichung Bhutia, Shyam Thapa and more to find recognition and a platform to chart their careers in football.
