Both teams, who have been rivals since the I-League era, have had a terrible campaign thus far. Mohammedan SC fell 2-0 and 3-0 against Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC, respectively. Having started their training just four days prior to the competition, Mohammedan SC are in deep trouble on and off the pitch. After one of the matches, Wadoo stated, “Everyone knows what circumstances we are going through. I’m so proud of the performance.”

Jose Hevia hoping for first win as GKFC head coach

When Jose Hevia was hired as head coach of the Malabarians, the club’s administration set ambitious objectives for him following his outstanding tenure at Shillong Lajong FC. However, things have not exactly gone as planned, as the coach has lost four of his first four games.

With four foreigners available against an all-Indian young Mohammedan squad, there is no better moment for him to record his first win of the season. The primary concern has been the team’s defence, which has surrendered 13 goals in just four games. Hevia stated that they need to improve defensively while praising their offensive performance.

“In attack, when we got the ball, we are doing really good things. But defensively, we need to be different. We have to get better a lot. Everyone has to do better, including me”, stated Jose Hevia after the loss to Bengaluru FC.
