Super League Kerala: Calicut FC thrash Thiruvananthapuram Kombans

Calicut FC were dominant from the first half.
In a thrilling encounter at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Calicut FC secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Thiruvananthapuram Kombans in match number 17 of the Super League Kerala. In an intense matchup between Thiruvananthapuram Kombans and Calicut FC, both teams came into the game determined to break their recent streak of draws.
As the second-last home game for Kombans this season, the pressure was on to deliver a much-needed victory in front of their passionate home crowd at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium. Similarly, Calicut FC, hungry for their first win in several matches, were equally eager to secure three points.
The atmosphere in the stadium was electric as fans from both sides filled the stands, anticipating a thrilling encounter. The teams aimed to use this fixture as a stepping stone toward improving their league standings.
Match Report
Calicut FC began the match with high momentum, immediately putting pressure on the home side. Their attacking strategies paid off early as they penetrated the Kombans defense and took an early lead in the 12th minute, with Muhammed Riyas heading the ball into the net.
Just eight minutes later, Calicut FC doubled their advantage with a well-executed corner from Gani Ahmed, which skipper Abdul Hakku converted with a powerful shot, leaving the Kombans defenders beaten.
After conceding two quick goals, the Kombans regrouped and began to attack with all their strength. They relied heavily on their key weapon, winger Ashar, who led the frontline with his quick runs into Calicut’s half. Despite his efforts to breach the Calicut defense, Ashar missed several chances to score against a well-organized opposition.
In the extra minutes of the first half, Calicut struck again, with their Ghanaian forward Ernest Barfo finding the net to extend their lead to 3-0. The first half ended with Calicut in complete control, leaving Kombans facing an uphill battle.
Kombans, eager to stage a comeback in front of their fully packed home crowd, found some hope early in the second half. Just a minute in, Cardoso Kuhn executed a well-timed strike to score a goal, narrowing Calicut FC’s lead to 3-1.
With renewed energy, Kombans pushed forward, trying their best to get back into the game. However, Calicut FC stood firm, countering every attack and maintaining their composure under pressure.
In the 59th minute, Calicut FC effectively sealed the match when Kervens Belfort found the back of the net, marking his second goal of the season. Despite both teams continuing to test each other’s defenses for the remainder of the match, the game ended with no further goals.
Kombans, known for their home-ground comebacks, were unable to turn the tide this time, suffering a 4-1 defeat at home. Calicut FC walked away with a convincing win, leaving the Kombans fans disappointed.
