Calicut FC vs Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC Preview, team news, lineups & prediction | Super League Kerala 2025

Calicut will host the Kombans on the 2nd of November in the Super League Kerala

The Super League Kerala is nearing its halfway mark, as the mid-table rivals Calicut FC and Thiruvananthapuram Kombans lock horns against each other for the first matchday of the Round 5 fixtures of Super League Kerala.

Both teams have had a decent tournament so far, managing to win only on one occasion across their four matches. With 5 points, the defending champions, Calicut FC are placed in the 4th position and the visitors, Thiruvananthapuram Kombans, are just a position behind with 4 points in the Super League Kerala group table.

The Stakes

Calicut FC

For Calicut FC, this will be one of their final home games of the Super League Kerala 2025. The defending champions have had a rather disappointing run so far in the league, as in their four matches, they have drawn twice, lost once and managed to win only a single game against Forca Kochi.

Calicut FC are currently experiencing the mid-table struggle that other teams like Kannur Warriors and Kombans faced last year, and a win is of utmost importance as it will take them higher up the table and place them in a comfortable position that qualifies them to the next round.

In their previous match, though Calicut FC were reduced to 10 men, they displayed some very positive intent and kept Malappuram in a stalemate. If they could come out on the pitch with the same intent, they could climb to the top of the table in no time.

Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC

For the Kombans, the stakes are similar to Calicut FC. The visitors are currently struggling in the 5th position of the Super League Kerala group table. With one draw, one win and two losses, the Kombans have four points in their bag with a goal difference of -1.

In contrast to Calicut, who are placed in the 4th position, which secures a qualification to the next round, the Kombans’ fifth-place spot will hinder them from qualifying for the semi-finals. Hence, James McAloon must deploy his best lineup for this match and hope to win their upcoming matches with a huge margin to seal their deal of moving to the next round. The men in yellow would be more than confident for the match as they trapped one of the only unbeaten teams, Malappuram FC, in their previous match.

Team News

Calicut FC will miss the services of Mohammed Asif Khan for the match against Kombans as the player is suspended for a red card that he received during the match against their match against Kannur Warriors FC. As far as Thiruvananthapuram Kombans are concerned, there are no major injury concerns for the team.

Player to Watch Out For

Calicut FC – Mohammed Ajsal

Muhammed Ajsal, the promising striker of Calicut FC, joined the side ahead of the season on a loan spell from Kerala Blasters. The 22-year-old local boy has proven his attacking prowess, and his goal-scoring ability has seen him score goals for the Kerala team in the Santosh Trophy and for Inter Kashi in the I-League in their inaugural campaign.

After scoring a brace for his side against Malappuram FC and winning the man of the match award, Ajsal yet again impressed yet again and saved Calicut from another loss. In the 28th minute of the match, Ajsal excellently won a corner kick deployed by Prashant in the centre of the box, and noticing the crowd created by Kannur Warriors, Ajsal proved his presence of mind by passing the ball to his unmarked teammate, Ajsal, who then scored the solitary goal for Calicut.

Thiruvananthapuram Kombans – Mohammed Ashar

Though the performance of Thiruvananthapuram Kombans has not been up to the mark this season, the performance of the 22-year-old local boy, Mohammed Ashar, has been impressive throughout the tournament. The former Muthoot FA player, who was on a loan spell for the Kombans in the first season, yet again signed for the team ahead of the Super League Kerala 2025 season.

The striker has made a significant impact for the Kombans and has provided four goal contributions, consisting of a goal and three assists. In their only win this season against Forca Kochi FC, Ashar was named the man of the match for the vital assist that helped the Kombans fetch three points at home.
