Super League Kerala matches are getting more intense day by day.
Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri witnessed a high-stakes encounter in the eleventh match of Super League Kerala, as Malappuram FC faced off against Kannur Warriors FC. John Gregory’s Malappuram FC entered the game seeking their first home victory in the league after struggling to capitalize on their inaugural win earlier in the season.
With the pressure mounting, Malappuram was keen to secure all three points in front of their home fans.
On the other side, Kannur Warriors FC, fresh from a dramatic draw against Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC, aimed to solidify their position at the top of the Super League Kerala table. Determined to grab a crucial away win, Kannur looked to their dynamic squad to overpower Malappuram on their home turf.
Malappuram FC’s hopes took an early hit as they were forced to make a key change, leaving captain Anas Edathodika out of the starting lineup. The absence of their experienced defender was immediately felt, as Kannur Warriors FC took advantage, striking first in the 14th minute. Kannur’s captain, Adrian Sardinero, found the back of the net, silencing the home crowd and putting Malappuram on the back foot.
With momentum on their side, Kannur continued to apply pressure. They doubled their lead when Asier Gomes capitalized on a misjudged throw-in by Malappuram defender Nandu Krishna, punishing the home side with a second goal. Down by two goals, Malappuram faced intense pressure but adjusted their attacking strategy.
Their efforts paid off when young star Faslurahman unleashed a stunning shot from the left side of the penalty box, pulling one back for the home team in the 41st minute. The goal reignited the crowd, and the first half ended with Kannur holding a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Malappuram FC came out with renewed energy, determined to find the equalizer. They relentlessly attacked using both flanks, with winger Faslurahman and forward Joseba Beitia spearheading the offensive efforts. Despite their increased intensity, Kannur Warriors FC’s goalkeeper, Ajmal, delivered a standout performance, making crucial saves that kept his side in the lead.
Kannur, while focused on defending their advantage, did not shy away from pushing forward when opportunities arose. Asier Gomes and Adrian Sardinero led counterattacks that threatened Malappuram’s defense, though the visitors were content to protect their narrow lead.
Despite sustained pressure from the home side, Malappuram were unable to break through Kannur’s resilient defense. The Warriors held on for a hard-fought 2-1 victory, marking an important away win and securing their position as strong contenders in the Super League Kerala.
