Kannur Warriors FC win the Super League Kerala 2025 for the first time ever.

Kannur Warriors FC clinched a historic 1-0 victory against the strong Thrissur Magic FC in the Super League Kerala 2025 Finals to be named the Champions of Kerala. A solitary penalty goal from Asier Gomes at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium crowned the Super League Kerala title to the Warriors for the first time ever.

An attacking tone was set for the match right from the kickoff as both teams desperately tried to find the opener with their offensive initiatives. This paid instant dividends for the Warriors. In the 18th minute, Asier Gomes scored the opener for the hosts off a penalty, following a handball offence from Tejas Krishna at the goal line.

Thrissur Magic FC struggled to attack consistently as Marcus remained lonely in the final third without support. Meanwhile, Kannur kept attacking with intent, but the now alert Thrissur Magic FC was a bit too hard for them to penetrate. In the final second of the first half, Sachin was sent off following a rash foul, putting Kannur in a one-man deficit for the remainder of the match.

In the second half, despite Thrissur piling continuous pressure upon the Warriors, they kept their composure and ensured that they did not concede, and at full-time, Kannur Warriors won their first home game of the Super League Kerala 2025, and they won, when it mattered the most.

Goal, Red Card, and Drama in Store

In the first half, Marcus kept the hosts alert by making a run from the right and taking a shot at goal, in an attempt to breach the goal. Kannur, on the other hand, made their offensive initiatives, courtesy of Asier Gomes and Shijin. The game was set on an attacking tone as both teams kept knocking on their opponent’s doors to find the opener and gain an early advantage.

In the 14th minute, Sinan whipped in a brilliant ball towards Asier Gomes, who took a powerful header at goal. The shot deflected off the crossbar and hit the hands of the Thrissur Magic FC defender Tejas Krishna, paving the way for his side to concede a penalty. Asier stepped in to take the spot kick and slotted the ball into the centre of the goal, past Kamaludheen, to break the deadlock of the Super League Kerala Final.

In the 24th minute, Shijin took advantage of the space vacated by Mailson Alves in the defensive third to take a shot on target, which was saved by the keeper, diving to the left. Kannur kept hunting to find their second goal and broaden their advantage. However, despite being inch-perfect in every attempt, they struggled to get the better of the Thrissur backline. The 32nd minute saw Tejas Krishna miss a golden opportunity to bring the scores back to parity. Faiaz deployed a brillaint freekick into the 18-yard box, which, after a header, went straight to Tejas, who blazed the ball above the open net.

In the stoppage time, Shijin made an accelerated counterattack and took a shot at the bottom corner, to which Kamaludheen somehow held his fingertips. In the dying seconds of the first half, Sachin made a rash foul on Kevin, leading to a second yellow and a send-off, reducing Kannur Warriors down to ten men for the remainder of the Super League Kerala Final.

In the second half, Thrissur made aggressive attacks to find the equaliser, capitalising on the Warrior’s one man deficit. However, despite attacking, they failed to get past the Kannur backline, who refused to bow down. This strategy, in multiple instances, backfired on the Magicians, as their all-out attack left voids in the defence, laying the foundation for the Warriors to launch some quick counterattacks and mount pressure upon Thrissur.

In the 69th minute, Kevin Padilla whipped in a lofted free kick into the final third, which Mailson Alves excellently headed in to the back of the net, rising above the opponents. However, just as the visiting side was celebrating their equaliser, the goal was ruled out following an offside. In the 79th minute, luck did not favour Thrissur yet again in the Super League Kerala Final as a header from Mailson Alves missed the goal as the crossbar came to the rescue for Kannur Warriors.

Kannur, despite being a man down, kept creating headaches for Thrissur Magic FC with their quick attacks. Thrissur Magic FC, on the other side of the coin, risked it all and ventured deep into the attacking third, desperate to pull back a goal. However, the Warriors put their bodies on the line and created a strong defensive fortress, which Thrissur found impenetrable. They kept their composure, defended as a unit, made some thumping clearances and won the Super League Kerala 2025 Final to be named the Champions of Kerala. With this win, Kannur Warriors have won their maiden Super League Kerala title.
