A brilliance from substitute keeper KM Parthiv, who made two vital saves in the shootout, helped craft the Magicians’ maiden win of the tournament. Following this, Thrissur Magic FC still remain at the bottom of the table with 3 points, while Thiruvananthapuram Kombans remain in the 5th position with five points.

Here is a detailed report of the Super League Kerala 2026 match between Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC and Thrissur Magic FC.

A half filled with missed chances

The hosts came into the fixture looking to build on their previous home momentum, frequently advancing through central channels, while Thrissur opted to exploit the flanks.

The fixture came to life in the 10th minute when the Kombans earned the night’s first major chance off a set-piece. A well-placed corner found Shinu past the Thrissur defence with an open goal ahead of him, but his header drifted wide of the target.

Thrissur sought to control the game by utilising the wide areas, with left-winger N.A. Anshid proving to be a continuous threat, constantly whipping cross-field deliveries into the opposition penalty box. However, the visitors suffered a major blow midway through the first session when their marquee summer signing and team captain, Brazilian defender Mailson Alves, was forced off on his debut with a bleeding nose. Pampithra Mandi was called off the bench to shore up the backline.

Thiruvananthapuram, advancing primarily through central channels, kept pushing for the opener. Marking his milestone 25th appearance for the Kombans, Brazilian playmaker Patrick Mota unleashed a powerful 40th-minute free-kick from just outside the box, only to watch it rattle off the crossbar.

In first-half stoppage time, Joseph Gordon found space on the edge of the area, but his low attempt zipped inches past the post to keep the game locked at 0-0 heading into the tunnel.

Thrissur hold Kombans to a deadlock

The second half began at a frantic pace. Thrissur carved out a scoring opportunity early on when Anshid mapped out another precise cross from the left flank to Spaniard Sergio Gil, whose close-range strike was smartly blocked by Kombans defender Pradeesh.

At the other end, Thiruvananthapuram continued to pose a threat on the counter through pacey forward Paulo Santos, though Thrissur’s backline executed a disciplined offside trap to deny him clean runs on goal.

The hosts engineered a string of chances around the hour mark: in the 53rd minute, Adil latched onto a neat pass from Patrick Mota only to blast his effort into the side netting. A minute later, Paulo failed to connect cleanly with Adil’s cross into the 6-yard box.

Seeking a late breakthrough, Thiruvananthapuram brought on Shanu and Hrithik in the 59th minute to refresh their front line. Thrissur countered with late pressure of their own on the right flank through Shihas, whose dangerous deliveries culminated in a blistering long-range strike that shaved the outer edge of the Kombans’ post just before the final whistle.

Penalty Shootout

Thiruvananthapuram had prevailed in their previous two home tiebreakers this season, but their luck ran out against Thrissur’s late substitution strategy.

With nerves of steel, young K.M. Parthiv pushed away shots from Muhammed Nisham and Jamsheed Ali, clinching a 4-3 shootout victory and securing three crucial points on the road for the visitors.
