Super League Kerala 2024: Kannur Warriors stun Thrissur Magic with ecstatic comeback

In the second match of the Super League Kerala, Thrissur Magic FC hosted Kannur Warriors FC in a thrilling encounter at the Manjeri Payyanad Stadium. As Thrissur Magic’s home match, the stadium was packed with passionate fans who filled the galleries with cheers, creating an electrifying atmosphere for both teams.
The game unfolded in front of an enthusiastic crowd, with both sets of supporters adding to the energy of the contest. Fans were treated to a high-octane match filled with end-to-end action, impressive individual performances, and tactical battles on the pitch.

Both teams started with an attacking mindset, and in the opening minutes, the game was largely concentrated in the middle of the park as both sides pressed forward, testing each other’s defence line. Thrissur Magic FC, under the leadership of CK Vineeth, came close to taking an early lead when Vineeth’s powerful header was blocked by the crossbar in the opening minute, sending a wave of excitement through the crowd.
Thrissur Magic FC’s breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Abijith Sarkar found the back of the net, converting a well-constructed play led by Vineeth. Despite Kannur Warriors FC pushing forward with some dangerous moves and making their way into Thrissur’s box, they were unable to capitalize on their chances and ended the first half without a goal.
Both teams showed moments of brilliance, but it was Thrissur Magic FC who made the most of their opportunities in the first half.
Kannur Warriors FC opened the second half with a high-press attacking strategy, but the defence of Thrissur Magic FC, led by the experienced Mailson Alves, held firm against the relentless pressure. Despite several failed attempts to break through, Kannur maintained their momentum and continued to push forward.
Their persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Spanish forward David Grande found the back of the net, leveling the score and boosting Kannur’s confidence. The goal energized the team, and their attacks became even more dangerous.
The game took a dramatic turn when Thrissur’s Hendry Antonay was shown a red card for a challenge while attempting to stop a dangerous Kannur Warriors’ attack, leaving Thrissur Magic FC down to 10 men. In the additional time of the second half, Kannur’s foreign defender Alvaro Alvares sealed the win with a crucial goal, handing Kannur Warriors FC their first victory of the Super League Kerala. The 2-1 triumph over Thrissur Magic FC marked a hard-fought win for Kannur, who snatched three points in dramatic fashion.
