Indian football team drop down to 133rd position in latest FIFA World Rankings

The Indian Football team has received a new setback with an embarrassing drop in positions in the latest FIFA World Rankings that have been released for July 2025. The Blue Tigers have fallen down all the way of the 133rd position in the latest set of FIFA World Rankings, suffering a six-place drop in the rankings as well.
The Indian side have suffered the joint-second biggest drop in the latest FIFA rankings for all the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) teams after their disappointing results in the June international break.

A disappointing run of form continue for India
The Blue Tigers suffered back-to-back losses in their recent games, which included a defeat to Thailand in an international friendly. They also lost to Hong Kong in their second 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers clash, and couldn’t even score a goal in either of the two matches.
That has taken a big impact on their coefficient points, causing the Indian side to fall down to the 133rd position. The Blue Tigers saw a deduction of 18.81 coefficient points because of their recent losses, causing them to drop out from the 126th position.
This is the first time in nine years that the Indian football team have fallen into the 130s bracket in the FIFA World Rankings. The last time they were ranked 130 or lower was back in March 2017, when they were ranked at the 132nd position. The Blue Tigers were able to fight hard to ensure they kept above the 130 position in the rankings up until now, when they’ve fallen badly.
Indian Football team 24th in AFC Rankings

As a result, the Indian Football Team are currently ranked in No. 24 in terms of the AFC teams in the FIFA World Rankings. They are now ranked lower than the likes of Malaysia, Korea DPR, and Indonesia. Japan is currently the highest-ranked AFC team at the 17th position, with Iran (20th) and the Korea Republic (23rd) behind them.
Argentina hold the No. 1 spot in the FIFA World Rankings in the latest rankings, despite seeing a slight decrease in their points tally. Spain have also held their place as the No.2 team in the rankings, with France completing the top 3.

The Indian football team are undergoing major structural changes after the departure of Manolo Marquez. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is currently on the lookout to find his replacement and appoint a new head coach for the Blue Tigers.
The Indian football team is currently poised to get back to action in October (2025) when they face Singapore in their next set of AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
