The India’s senior national football team campaign in the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers came to an end on a positive note as they secured a 2–1 victory over Hong Kong in their final group stage match in Kochi.
Goals from Ryan Williams and Akash Mishra gave India control of the contest, with both players scoring their first international goals and providing a glimpse of a new attacking core. The early goal lifted the tempo, with India dominating possession and creating chances, particularly through Lallianzuala Chhangte, who constantly stretched the Hong Kong defence. At the break, India held a deserved advantage, combining control with attacking intent.
However, Hong Kong remained in the contest, with Everton Camargo pulling one back to ensure a nervy finish for the hosts.The final stages saw India tested, but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu remained composed in goal, ensuring the hosts held on for the win.
Despite the win, the side led by Khalid Jamil finished the campaign at the bottom of Group C, bringing a mixed and ultimately disappointing qualification run to a close.
