The AIFF has officially begun their search for a new Indian Football team head coach following the departure of Manolo Marquez, after his brief stint with the Blue Tigers.
During an AIFF Executive Committee meeting held on July 2nd, the federation mutually parted ways with Manolo Marquez, who was on coaching duties for both the Indian football team as well as ISL Club FC Goa.
The Spanish tactician who took over the Indian Football Team with high expectations left the post with less than a year into his tenure, following a string of poor performances with only one win in eight matches.
The federation has now opened applications for the position of the new Head Coach of the Indian National Football Team. While the application process is underway, interested candidates must meet specific responsibilities and eligibility criteria set by the AIFF.
Responsibilities of the Indian Football Team Head Coach

As the head of the Indian Football Team, the head coach is responsible for preparing the team for all international competitions, ensuring maximum wins and promoting player development.
The role also involves creating suitable formations, analysing the opposition teams and aligning the team’s preparation with the demands of elite-level football.
The tactician is also expected to use and integrate modern technologies for match analysis and performance tracking. Another crucial part of the responsibility is to improve individual performance, ensuring that the players are in form and maintain their fitness.

Additionally, they are required to communicate regularly with the AIFF leadership, provide technical insight and mentor coaching staff within the national team setup.
The responsibilities also include coordinating with departments across medical, media, and logistics, ensuring smooth team operations.
As the public face of the team, the Head Coach must also fulfil media duties while maintaining professional relationships with domestic clubs, international bodies, and AIFF partners. The coach is expected to display the values of Indian football and contribute to its long-term growth, both on as well as off the pitch.
Requirements to apply for the position of the Indian Football Team Head Coach
Required experience and qualifications
- Must have 10 to 15 years of coaching experience at the senior or elite youth level.
- Should have worked as a head coach during the World Cup or continental qualifiers (preferred).
- Must hold a valid AFC/UEFA Pro License or equivalent.
- Prior playing experience in top-level football is not required, but some on-field experience is expected.

The AIFF has also stated that the Duration and Remuneration can be decided during the interview period. It also mentions that the Federation reserves the right to cancel or reject the vacancy or applications without assigning any reason.
