Records in favour of Tajikistan

The head-to-head record between Tajikistan and India is tilted in favour of the former. The two sides have met five times in the past. Tajikistan have won on three occasions, while India only have a solitary win to their name.

The first two meetings between the two teams were in 2008 in the AFC Challenge Cup. The first match was played in the group stage, which ended in a stalemate. Whereas the second one saw the Blue Tigers crushing the visitors in a 4-1 victory in the final.

However, after the first two meetings, the Blue Tigers have not had a good run against Tajikistan. The last match between these two sides was played in 2019. It was the 2019 Intercontinental Cup in Ahmedabad where both sides came up against each other. Similar to this time, the Blue Tigers had a new coach at the helm. Igor Stimac had just taken over, and the match against Tajikistan was his first major assignment.

The Blue Tigers conceded a heartbreaking 4-2 defeat after taking a two-goal lead courtesy of a brace from Sunil Chhetri.
