The 2024-25 Indian football season is truly up and running, and one of the talking points has been NorthEast United FC. Jithin MS has come to the limelight with his amazing performances in the Durand Cup and Indian Super League (ISL).

The Highlanders came out strong against all odds and clinched their first piece of silverware in the Durand Cup. They have also followed up with a series of good performances in the ISL.

One of the key players has been Jithin MS. The Thrissur-born winger has been one of the driving forces behind NorthEast United’s miraculous run.

Career & Performances

Jithin MS hails from ‘God’s Own Country’, Kerala and humble beginnings paved the way for Jithin to take up the beautiful sport as a career. He started with the famous Sevens Football in Kerala climbed up the ladders of the local footballing scene and established himself as one of the finest players in the country. He signed his first professional contract with FC Kerala in 2016.

In 2017, ISL side Kerala Blasters shelled out a transfer fee to secure his services, but only used him for their reserves. Jithin moved on and joined Gokulam Kerala and won two back-to-back I-League titles in the process. He also inspired Kerala to a Santosh Trophy triumph in 2017-18 and became the top scorer with five goals.

He was then brought in by his current club NorthEast United in 2022. He struggled to find his mojo and settle down initially but has transformed into a completely different player since the start of the year. From being one of the trolled players to becoming a fan favorite at NorthEast United, Jithin has come a long way and there’s more to go.

Playing Style

Jithin is a proven winner and has won trophies everywhere he has gone. Known for his speed and precision, he is one of the best wingers in the league right now.

He has also been the most impactful Indian player in the league this season. The 26-year-old possesses raw pace and can take on defenders as and when he wants. Ideally a left winger by choice, Jithin can operate on both flanks and produce as per the requirements of the team. 

His ball-carrying abilities are possibly one of the best that the league has ever witnessed. His synergy with his teammates coupled with his tactical brilliance makes him an undisputed starter under Juan Pedro Benali.

Every aspect of his game is flawless, but he needs to work on his finishing skills and if that’s sorted, Jithin will become an unstoppable force.

Future Potential

Jithin is one of the finest players in the league at the moment. He has backed his potential with good and convincing numbers this season. With four assists to his name, he is the joint-highest assist provider in the league this season. He might not grab the headlines now and then, but gives his 200% every time he takes to the pitch. 

His consistency, commitment and ethical nature make him one of the most impactful players in the country. He can become a great resource for both NorthEast United and the Indian national team going forward.
