The Indian football team will be hoping to give a solid farewell to their skipper.

The Indian football team are ready to host Kuwait in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers second round clash at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on June 6. It will be India’s first game since that disappointing loss to Afghanistan in March and one they’ll be absolutely desperate to win.

This match will also be a special occasion as it’ll also mark Sunil Chhetri’s final match for the Blue Tigers. He has announced his decision to retire after the game and will aim to go out with a bang by sealing a big win for India. The Blue Tigers desperately need to get back to winning ways if they aspire to move into the third round of World Cup qualification.

Where can you watch the India vs Kuwait game?

Amid the anticipation for this big game, it has been confirmed that Sports18 network (Sports18 1, Sports18 1 HD, Sports18 3) will be broadcasting the game on June 6. It’ll also be available to watch for free on Jio Cinema for users online, as was the case with the previous Indian Super League (ISL) season and the AFC Asian Cup as well.

The Sports18 network has almost become the home for the Indian football team, having taken up the duties for broadcasting most of Indian football team’s matches over the last year or so. The network spends makes a lot of resources available for the broadcasting, which includes different camera angles and aspects like ‘Player Cam’ – where one could focus on just one player during the course of matches.

The game between India and Kuwait will begin at 7 PM IST. Most of the tickets for the major occasion has already been sold out among the football-crazy Kolkata crowd. This comes after the 2023/24 ISL final between Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC saw a record crowd of over 62,000 turn up to watch the match – setting the feat of the largest crowd to ever watch an ISL final live.

A similar number is expected for this upcoming India match, especially considering that it’ll be Chhetri’s final match for the national team. The fans will hope that the Indian team can get back to their best and pick up their second win over Kuwait in the World Cup qualifiers to have a strong chance of moving past the second round of qualifying.
