India vs Malaysia: All time Head-to-head record
The last encounter resulted in Malaysia beating the Blue Tigers in a 4-2 win.
The Indian national football team, under the guidance of Manolo Marquez, are gearing up for a crucial friendly match against Malaysia on 18th November 2024 at the GMC Balayogi Stadium, Hyderabad. This match is of great significance as this international friendly would be the last friendly game before the Asian Cup Qualifiers in March
Indian football team head coach Manolo Marquez has selected his final squad for the match including new players and old injured players making a comeback. This friendly against Malaysia will be his third assignment after the friendly against Vietnam and the Intercontinental Cup.
The Blue Tigers are yet to register a win under the Spaniard as the last matches played under his guidance resulted in a draw and a defeat in the Intercontinental Cup while the friendly against Vietnam ended in a 1-1 draw.
Both India and Malaysia are in the midst of a rebuilding phase, with new leadership under a Spaniard who has taken up the role of a coach just before the qualifiers. While India have struggled to find consistent form and are winless, Malaysia have shown promising signs of improvement.
The Harimau Malaya‘s recent success in the 2024 Merdeka tournament was proof of their improvement where they defeated the Philippines and Lebanon. Their 3-1 victory over Chinese Taipei in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers further demonstrated their growing strength.
This will be an interesting clash for both the teams just having played each other just 13 months ago in the Merdeka Tournament semi-final at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
Nine players from the Indian squad that participated in their last clash are set to feature in this friendly, providing the much-needed experience. The nine players include – Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Sandesh Jhingan, Mehtab Singh, Vishal Kaith, Naorem Roshan Singh, Amrinder Singh, Liston Colaco, Lallianzuala Chhangte and Suresh Singh Wangjam.
Malaysia, on the other hand, brings a squad with a core of experienced players who were instrumental in their recent victories. Fourteen players from the squad participated in the 2023 Merdeka Tournament, including goal-scorers like Arif Aiman and Dion Cools.
