Manolo Marquez shares major update on Brandon Fernandes' fitness & availability

India is coming after a big 3-0 win over Maldives under Manolo Marquez.
Brandon Fernandes was one of the most impactful player today on the pitch as India finally ended their 489-day winless run. The Blue Tigers secured a dominant 3-0 victory over the Maldives. This was Sunil Chhetri’s first match after coming out of retirement. The legendary striker impressed once again. He netted his 95th international goal in style. The win was a big morale boost for the team.
However, India has suffered a major setback. Midfielder Brandon Fernandes picked up an injury during the match. His availability for the next game is now uncertain. Head coach Manolo Marquez has shared updates on his fitness during the post-match press conference.
Fate doesn’t seem to get kinder on Marquez and the Blue Tigers as they saw their three major players being unavailable recently before the gaffer announced his 26-men squad. After Ashish Rai and Lallianzuala Chhangte, Manvir Singh was also released from the camp recently following an injury. Now Brandon’s unavailability ahead of the crucial game against Bangladesh could pose a serious challenge to the Blue Tigers.

Brandon has been a linchpin for the Blue Tigers
Brandon Fernandes has been a key player for Mumbai City FC. The 30-year-old midfielder from Margao has played a vital role this season. His influence has been crucial for the Islanders. Brandon has made 22 appearances this season so far and made 2 assists.
He has contributed to two goals while playing both as a starter and a super sub. His passing accuracy of 80% highlights his playmaking ability. He was also a key player for India against Maldives. His absence could be a big setback ahead of the crucial clash against Bangladesh.
What does Manolo have to say about his availability?
Manolo Marquez shared his thoughts on Brandon Fernandes’ injury. He believes it is almost impossible for Brandon to continue playing in the next game. The injury is serious, and he does not want to take any risks. Manolo feels that the pitch is good but suggested that slipping alone might have caused an injury. His main focus now is on finding a replacement.

He said, “No, for sure, Brandon won’t be available. It’s really bad luck that we lost three players in the last game in ISL, plus Manvir the other day during the break session, and today, Brandon.”
India has already suffered three major injuries. Brandon’s absence adds to the team’s struggles. The squad is already under pressure to perform. The upcoming match is crucial, and they must adapt quickly. Overcoming these setbacks will be a big challenge. The Blue Tigers must now fight even harder.
Will we see Brison making his national team debut soon?
Manolo is considering his options for the next match. He may bring in Brison or another player to fill the gap. Losing Brandon is a huge setback for India. His creativity and passing ability are hard to replace. The team will need someone to step up in midfield. Manolo must make a crucial decision before facing Bangladesh.
Manolo in the press conference said, “Yes, we will call someone. We will recover Brison, who was in the stands today. But let’s see which player.”
