The Blue Tigers will face La Celeste on October 6.

India are all set to face the two-time World Cup winners, the Uruguayan national football team, on the 6th of October 2026, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata.

After a historic draw against the 44th-ranked Panama national football team and a respectable 0-4 loss against Brazil, the Blue Tigers are geared to lock horns with Uruguay as their next opponent for their final match in the September-October FIFA International Window.

Former Mumbai City FC player Diego Forlán, now manager of the Uruguayan national football team, has named a star-studded squad, including Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araújo, and José María Giménez, for their clash with India.

As the highly anticipated India vs Uruguay match approaches, here’s how India could line up for their upcoming FIFA International Friendly.

GK – Prabhsukhan Singh Gill

Gill could start for the Blue Tigers against Uruguay

Stepping onto the pitch in the second half of the last game against Brazil, Gill provided a calm and composed presence between the sticks during the opponent’s attacks.

Despite conceding two goals, the keeper demonstrated solid positional awareness and clean hands when handling high crosses and set-piece deliveries.

With a few mistakes from Gurpreet in the last game, plaguing early phases of play, Gill’s relatively better performance makes him a strong contender to claim the starting spot against Uruguay.

RB – Tekcham Abhishek Singh

Tekcham Abhishek put on an absolute masterclass vs Brazil.

Abhishek Singh put on an absolute masterclass on the right flank in the last game, standing tall and demonstrating disciplined defensive performance that limited Vinícius to zero successful dribbles throughout the first half.

The wing-back was decent in duels and did well to prevent the Brazilian attacking unit from knocking on the Indian doors along the touchline.

With two back-to-back solid performances against top-tier teams, Abhishek Singh is expected to be the guaranteed starter on the right flank against Uruguay.

CB – Anwar Ali

Anwar Ali is expected to start against Uruguay.

Anwar Ali remains the cornerstone of India’s central defence, offering the tactical composure needed against high-pressing teams.

In the last two games, Anwar Ali spearheaded the defensive core that defended fiercely in duels and aerial balls to match the opposition’s physicality.

Despite a mistake from Anwar Ali that led to the second goal for Brazil, his ability to command the backline and maintain a disciplined defensive shape, making crucial interceptions to prevent crosses and dangerous balls from reaching the box, make him a potent asset for Khalid Jamil.

CB – Pramveer Singh

Pramveer Singh may start against Uruguay.

Pramveer is expected to replace Bijoy Varghese in the back, as the defender struggled in some parts of the match against Brazil and even made a mistake that led to India conceding the third goal.

In the last game, Pramveer, who came in as a substitute, brought fresh legs and a strong physical presence to help the Blue Tigers withstand last-minute overloads from the Selecao.

The 19-year-old, if picked in the starting eleven, could provide reliable central defensive cover and strength in physical battles in the box against Uruguay.

LB – Jay Gupta

Jay Gupta may start as the left back.

Jay Gupta offered energy on the left flank, as the player ventured into the attacking half to drive the team higher up the pitch during transitions and even provided his physical presence during set pieces.

While Jay Gupta made a couple of mistakes in the last game, his athleticism and energy provide the Blue Tigers with an option capable of covering wide areas efficiently

CM – Anirudh Thapa

Anirudh Thapa is likely to start against Uruguay.

Coming into the starting eleven for the last game, replacing Ricky Shabong. Anirudh Thapa was one of the best performers for India against Brazil.

Thapa did well to press the opponents, force errors from them, and made some crucial interceptions, which disrupted Brazil’s build-up play.

Despite having some struggles in positioning, Anirudh Thapa displayed an excellent work rate and did well to act as a link between the attack and the defence and could be key in dictating tempo against Uruguay.

CM- Lalengmawia Ralte

Apuia had the tactical awareness and the ability to recycle possession under tight pressure last game. Combined well with Anirudh Thapa and kept the midfield intact throughout the game.

Was key in making some thumping interceptions and last-ditch tackles whenever the defence seemed shaky. Apuia also effortlessly navigated out of congested areas to hold possession last game, and the Apuia-Thapa combination could play a match-defining role against Uruguay.

RW – Edmund Lalrindika

Edmund can be an option on the right.

Edmund, who came in as a substitute against both Panama and Brazil, did well to inject attacking intent back into the team and pushed his side to find the ball in the back of the net.

While Edmund failed to connect the ball efficiently in the final third in both games and made some faults which later turned costly for India, his presence could turn out handy for India in the early stages of the game to drive the momentum and keep the game under the Blue Tigers’ steer.

CAM – Ryan Williams

Ryan was India’s main goal threat during the last game and almost found his name on the scoresheet, which, to his dismay, was cleared off the line. Ryan made some exceptional moves with the ball, linking up well with Manvir Singh and displaying some sharp instincts in the 18-yard-area.

With the Manvir-Ryan duo gaining more coordination after each game, Ryan could potentially be a key offensive threat who could consistently knock on the doors and penetrate through the Uruguayan backline.

LW – Mohammed Sanan

Sanan is likely to start against Uruguay.

Sanan showed a strong intent to dribble past the defenders, keep control of the ball and look for diagonal passes and crosses in the second half against Brazil.

Sanan showed intelligent positioning in half-spaces and quick distribution under pressure, and provided creativity between the lines to support the offensive unit.

He also tracked back well to make some decent defensive contributions and is expected to find his place in the starting eleven instead of Ashique, who seemed shaky last game.

CF – Manvir Singh

Manvir Singh is expected to form the front two alongside Ryan Williams for India.

Manvir Singh, yet again, delivered a tireless performance up front, going head-to-head against Marquinhos at the back.

The striker shielded the ball well, delivered some teasing crosses and long balls to Ryan Williams in the final third, which kept the opponent’s backline on alert and even came close to scoring, but it was unfortunately defended.

His excellent pace and work rate, coupled with his physical dominance, especially during aerial balls, make him the undisputed starter for the centre-forward role against Uruguay.
