Breaking: Brazil to play India in Kolkata on October 3

Iconic VYBK will host the historical match
Five times FIFA World Cup champions Brazil are confirmed to play the Indian football team in an International friendly match on 3rd October at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) Stadium in Kolkata as the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) officially confirmed the blockbuster clash just a few minutes ago.
With the official announcement now putting all speculations aside, the football fans in India can cheer up to witness the footballing powerhouse Brazil take on the Blue Tigers at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata as a part of history is written.
One for the history books

Brazil, five-time world champions, are the most successful men’s national team in football. India will host the Seleção at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in one of the biggest matches in Indian football history.
The fixture will mark the highest-ranked opposition India have faced since the FIFA World Ranking was introduced in 1992, with Brazil currently ranked fifth.
Brazil’s legacy has inspired generations of footballers across the world, including millions of passionate supporters in India. India is known for having one of the largest Brazilian fan bases outside of Brazil.
Mr M Satyanarayan, AIFF Deputy Secretary General, said, “To welcome a team of Brazil’s stature to our country is an extraordinary moment and one that will undoubtedly become a landmark chapter in the history of Indian football.”
Subrata Paul, Director, National Teams, said, “For our national team players, this is far more than just another match. It is a rare opportunity to test themselves against one of the greatest footballing nations the game has ever known. Experiences like these challenge players to grow, inspire them to dream bigger, and leave memories that stay with them throughout their careers.”
India’s schedule for 2026

The Blue Tigers are scheduled to participate in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 in September-October FIFA Window followed by a high-stakes blockbuster friendly against the five-time FIFA World Cup champions Brazil on October 3rd at the VYBK Stadium, Kolkata.
After the Brazil friendly, the Blue Tigers will be back in action as they fly to New Zealand in November for a two-match friendly tour scheduled for 12th and 15th November.
The question is whether the senior team will play the SAFF Championship 2026 or the U-23 will be fielded as the senior team will be playing New Zealand during the same window in November 2026.
Again, another major question that remains is that how will the Blue Tigers manage the high stakes friendly against Brazil, with the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 also taking place between September 21 and October 6.
