The Indian Senior football team finally got a win after 489 days. The Blue Tigers ended up with a scoreline of a 3-0 victory with the Maldives football team in an International friendly match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Wednesday.

India’s victory over the Maldives was secured with powerful headers from Rahul Bheke and Liston Colaco, both coming from corner kicks However, the most celebrated moment was Sunil Chhetri’s return, marked by his 95th international goal, a header from Liston Colaco’s brilliant cross.

Demonstrating his sharpness, Sunil Chhetri nearly opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a delicate header from a free kick,unfortunately, it couldn’t capitalize. Throughout the first half, Chhetri did not show any signs of weariness and also displayed his intelligent movement and link-up play, consistently creating chances and testing the Maldives defense.

He was a constant threat, his experience and understanding of the game evident in every touch. His performance reached its peak in the second half when he shot powerful header, proving his aerial ability and clinical finishing, securing his 95th international goal and reminding everyone the irreplaceable value of him to the Indian national team.

Rahul Bheke‘s performance against Maldives was a masterclass in leadership and defense, showcasing both his awareness and physical dominance. He led a sturdy defensive line, showing exceptional composure in stopping the Red Snappers attempts in counter-attacks. His defense approach was evident in his timely interventions, crucial clearances, and effective interceptions, often stopping the opponent’s attacking threats.

In the 34th minute, Rahul Bheke perfectly delivered a free kick from Brandon Fernandes, delivering a header that left the Maldives goalkeeper with no chance. His efforts resulted in in a powerful header for his debut international goal, doubling India’s advantage. He then delivered a pinpoint cross for Sunil Chhetri’s goal, further cementing his performance earning him the Player of the match award.
