"We tried our best; our mistakes gave them goals": Akash Mishra speaks after India's game against Brazil

India succumbed to a 4-0 loss against Brazil

The Indian National Football Team suffered a 4-0 loss against the Brazilian Football Team on the 3rd of October 2026 at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, as part of their FIFA International Friendlies fixture.

The Blue Tigers looked decent till the 25th minute, and did well to prevent the Selecao from breaching the net. However, individual mistakes proved costly for the hosts, and Brazil broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, courtesy of Estevao, who provided the visitors with the advantage. A late first-half goal from Pedro meant that India trailed 2-0 at the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, despite the Blue Tigers creating multiple chances to find the back of the net, they were somehow lacking the final touch that would convert the chances into a goal. Samuel Lino, who registered a brace in the second half, drove the nail in the coffin and secured a 4-0 victory for Brazil in Kolkata.

Following the 4-0 loss, Akash Mishra, who was instrumental in the game against Panama and displayed a decent performance against Brazil, spoke in an interview. Here is a detailed report on what Akash Mishra said after the game.

Thoughts after the game

When asked about his thoughts on the game, Akash Mishra noted that despite having a solid plan against Brazil, defensive mistakes gifted them goals. He acknowledged Brazil’s quality but stressed that the team is now moving forward to fix their errors for the upcoming match against Uruguay.

“As we prepared against Panama, we had the plan against Brazil also. I don’t want to take anything from Brazil; they scored the top goals, but I think we also could have done better. We only gave them some of the goals. Now we have the next game against Uruguay, so we’ll work on it, and we’ll try.”

Does playing games like these boost confidence of the team?

When asked if games like these boost the team’s confidence, Akash Mishra said that competing against top sides builds belief, and the team showed clear progress and performed much better against Brazil than they did against Panama.

“Honestly, after the game we were saying the same thing, that if we play games like this, teams like this, of course our confidence will go up. And even against Brazil, we, as a team, we tried to play; we tried to keep the ball. I think we played much better than against Panama; we played much better today. But yeah, again, it’s Brazil.”

Ryan Williams for India is in action.

“We had our conversation in the dressing room, and we wanted the game to be open. We don’t want to sit back and just defend, defend. And I think you guys saw how we wanted to play. Yeah, like I said, our mistake gave them the goals. But yeah, we tried our best, and we tried to play football.”

“Representing the country, trying to give our best.”: Akash Mishra

Abhishek Singh Tekcham for India and Vinicius Jr. for Brazil in action.

When asked about the pre-match excitement, Akash Mishra shared that while he felt excited beforehand, once on the pitch it felt like a normal eleven versus eleven game focused on giving his best for the country.

“For me, I think the excitement was there before the game. But when the game started, it was normal for me. It was India versus Brazil, 11 versus 11. So yeah, maybe the excitement was there before the game. But on the pitch, it was, for me, just a normal game. Representing the country, trying to give our best.”

India to face Uruguay on 6th October
