This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides and the first time the five-time World Cup winners play a match on Indian soil.
Earlier this month, the AIFF withdrew from the FIFA ASEAN Cup as the fixture against Brazil created some scheduling conflicts with the tournament.
The AIFF eventually prioritised the match against Brazil because facing a five-time World Cup champion offers invaluable high-level experience and an introspection on how India compares to the global giants in footballing terms.

Boasting a 5th rank in the global FIFA rankings, Brazil will be the highest-ranked team the Blue Tigers will be facing in their footballing history.
Following the Round of 16 exit in the FIFA World Cup 2026, the match against the Blue Tigers will be the third match the Selecao will play post-World Cup.
Starting the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Morocco, Brazil won two back-to-back games with a scoreline of 3-0 against Haiti and Scotland.
Later, they defeated Japan 2-1 in the Round of 32 before eventually succumbing to Norway in the Round of 16, where they were defeated 2-1.
Just ahead of the World Cup, in June, Brazil earned a dominating 6-2 victory against Panama, whom India will face on the 26th of September, ahead of their clash against Brazil.
However, the Blue Tigers, after a disappointing Unity Cup campaign and a friendly tour against Tajikistan, will lock horns against some highly regarded teams in the international window.
This window will provide the opportunity to test themselves against elite World Cup-playing opposition and gain exposure on home soil
Which city will host the India vs Brazil match?
The landmark India vs Brazil clash will be hosted at Kolkata’s iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. The venue, which has witnessed several memorable occasions in Indian football, is set to host what could be one of the biggest international fixtures in the country’s history.
This will be the first time the national team will play in Kolkata after June 2024. The last time the Blue Tigers stepped onto the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan was in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Kuwait, where the game ended 0-0.
The game also marked Sunil Chhetri’s final international appearance at the time, before he eventually came out of retirement in March 2025. Now, on 3rd October, all roads will yet again lead to Kolkata, where fans from all across India will paint VYBK in Blue and become a part of history.
India to face Panama and Uruguay in the international window
Ahead of the heavyweight encounter against Brazil on the 3rd of October, India will have a dress rehearsal match against the 44th-ranked Panama on the 26th of September. The match will be played at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru.
Post the India vs Brazil match, the VYBK will witness yet another historical encounter as India will lock horns against the two-time World Cup winners Uruguay on the 6th of October.
The Blue Tigers will play two more matches against New Zealand on November 12 and November 15, at Auckland and Christchurch.
