Earlier, the AIFF had withdrawn from the ASEAN Cup to avoid scheduling conflicts and ensure the Blue Tigers could prioritise a high-profile friendly against Brazil.
However, as part of the AIFF’s bid to measure India’s performance against the global giants, the senior men’s national team will step on the pitch to face two more FIFA World Cup-featuring teams, and it all begins with the match against Panama.

The match between India and Panama will be the first-ever official meeting between the two sides. The Los Canaleros, having formerly featured in the FIFA World Cup 2026, bring in a formidable quality and experience and will be acting as a dress rehearsal ahead of the highly anticipated India vs Brazil encounter.
In the FIFA World Cup 2026, Panama, despite losing all the matches and not getting past the group stage, gave a decent fight to the heavyweights England, Croatia and Senegal and had a respectable scoreline against the teams.
On the other hand, India have had a disappointing stint in the Unity Cup and the friendlies against Tajikistan, losing three out of their last four matches.
Hence, for the Blue Tigers, locking horns with a CONCACAF side offers vital exposure and a realistic introspection of India’s current footballing state against the global leaders.

The historic clash will be hosted in Bengaluru at the iconic Sree Kanteerava Stadium. This fixture marks the Blue Tigers’ return to the venue after three years.
The last time the national team played in Bengaluru was during their triumphant SAFF Championship campaign in 2023, where they lifted the trophy in front of a roaring home crowd, defeating Kuwait 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw
While there are a few concerns with regard to the pitch quality at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru FC, the home team now has a span of one month to make necessary rectifications and ensure that the pitch is in the best condition when the national team makes a comeback after three years.
A busy schedule for the Blue Tigers
Following the India vs Panama match at Bengaluru, the Blue Tigers will travel to Kolkata, where they will face the five-time World Cup winner Brazil for a blockbuster fixture on the 3rd of October at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
AIFF has officially confirmed that India will also face the two-time World Cup winners Uruguay on the 6th of October at the same venue.
India are also scheduled to host a two-match series against the New Zealand national football team on November 12 and November 15 away from home, at Auckland and Christchurch.
