Indian football team's FIFA ranking graph in 2024
The Blue Tigers are currently ranked 125th.
The Indian football team will return to action for an international friendly against Malaysia on November 18. The Blue Tigers will take to the field for the first time since their 1-1 draw against Vietnam last month. It will be Manolo Marquez’s fourth game in charge and his search for his first-ever win as India’s head coach continues.
The Blue Tigers have had a year to forget so far. They have not won a single game this year and have faced multiple heartbreaks and setbacks. Overall, it’s been a frustrating and overwhelming year filled with disastrous performances that have impacted their FIFA rankings big time. They started the year at 102nd, but have only faced downfalls this year.
On that note, let us recap India’s FIFA ranking graph in 2024.
Indian football team’s performance
The Blue Tigers are currently ranked 125th in the latest FIFA ranking, eight spots above Malaysia, which is ranked 133rd. They dropped 15 positions in the first list of the year. The Blue Tigers were on the receiving end of a pathetic 2023 AFC Asian Cup campaign, losing all of their group-stage games against Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria without even scoring a goal.

As a result, India fell to 117th on the rankings in February. After that, a draw and a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan at home made things even worse. They fell four more places and found themselves at 121st in the April rankings. In June, India played out a 0-0 draw against Kuwait in what was Sunil Chhetri’s final game for the national team.
Their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers game saw them face yet another defeat at the hands of Qatar, but this time in a controversial manner. Indian slipped three more places to 124 which resulted in the sacking of Croatian head coach Igor Stimac. The All Indian Football Federation appointed Spanish manager Manolo Marquez as the new head coach soon after.
Manolo’s first assignment was the Intercontinental Cup in September where his side shared spoils with Mauritius before conceding a defeat against eventual champions Syria. Their performance in the Intercontinental Cup saw them come down to 126th. However, they have bounced back to 125 in the latest rankings, thanks to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Vietnam last month.
