Thiruvananthapuram Kombans end Kannur Warriors unbeaten streak in Super League Kerala 2025-26

Kombans seal their second victory in the Super League Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram Kombans clinched a historic 3-1 victory against Kannur Warriors FC in the second matchday of the Round 6 fixtures of the Super League Kerala. The highly anticipated encounter took place on the 10th of November at the Jawahar Municipal Stadium, Kannur.
After a rather silent first half, the Kombans rose up from their ruins as Jasim found the back of the net in the 47th minute to provide the visiting side with the advantage. Just minutes later, Autemar found the back of the net twice to provide Kombans with a comfortable three-goal cushion. Just then, Sardinero was sent off following a verbal exchange with the referee, putting Kannur Warriors down to 10 men.
In the dying minutes of the game, Asier scored the solitary goal for the Warriors off a free kick, but it was way too late to make a comeback, and at full time the Kombans secured a 3-1 victory. With this win, the Kombans have broken the unbeaten streak of the Warriors in the Super League Kerala 2025.
Deadlock yet to be broken
The Kombans, understanding the intensity of the match, started good and sharply, controlling possession and making some quick movements with the ball, which produced some meaningful attacks. The visiting side won a good number of corner kicks and free kicks from dangerous positions, which mounted pressure upon the hosts.
However, the Kommbans yet again stumbled in the final third as they lacked finishing and were unable to create a significant threat apart from a few brilliance in patches. On the other hand, Kannur Warriors displayed consistency in both the attack and defence and did not allow the Kombans to be on the front foot.
Manoj was exceptional for Kannur as he ventured deep into the attacking third to strengthen the attacks of the hosts, along with retreating back to defend and win duels, whenever the Kombans posed a danger for the Warriors. All of the Warriors’ attacks and attempts to find the back of the net were stopped by the alert Kombans keeper Satyajit, meaning no goals separated both sides at the stroke of half-time.
Komban’s masterclass in the second half
The second half began with an increased motivation as the Kombans kept attacking aggressively, and this bore immediate results as Jasim scored the opener for the visiting side. Autemar made an impressive run towards the final third and took a shot at the goal, which, though it was saved by the keeper, went straight to Jasim, who was at the right place at the right time to slot in the rebound.
In the 68th minute, the Kombans doubled their lead courtesy of Autemar, who tapped in a brilliant cross from Ronald, who deployed a delicious ball after making an accelerated dribble. The 84th minute saw Autemar score yet again off a cross from Ashar. The 22-year-old whipped in a teasing ball that beat the keeper and the defenders and went towards Autemar, who just had to tap the ball into the net.
However, just after the goal, the Kannur talisman Adrian Sardinero was involved in a heated exchange with the referee, which saw him being booked by the referee, leading to a send-off, putting Kannur to a one-man deficit. In the 98th minute, Asier Gomes put one final blow to the match to brilliantly score off a free kick from outside the box, providing a consolation for the hosts. At full-time, the game ended 3-1 in favour of the Kombans, who broke the five-match unbeaten streak of the Warriors in the Super League Kerala 2025.
