Three ways East Bengal can benefit from Bipin Singh's arrival

East Bengal have strengthened their attacking force for the 2025-26 season with the signing of Bipin Singh. The Red & Gold Brigade have been able to sign the ex-Mumbai City FC winger on a free transfer after he left the Islanders, having spent seven years at the club.

The 30-year-old winger comes in with a wealth of experience in Indian football, having been playing in the Indian Super League (ISL) for well over seven years now. He has already made 141 appearances in the ISL, producing some impressive goal numbers in 27 goals and 12 assists during that period as well.

The Manipuri footballer is going to add a lot more experience to Oscar Bruzon’s squad and improve their depth of options for their frontline as well. Here we look at the three ways that East Bengal can greatly benefit from the arrival of Bipin Singh.

3. Clinical in the final third

East Bengal badly missed an experienced figure like Bipin Singh in their wide areas in the 2024-25 season, with Oscar Bruzon failing to find the ideal combination because of various problems. However, they now have a dangerous left-wing option and a player who will be willing to run the extra mile to help his side succeed.

Singh is a technically skilful winger who loves to torment defenders with his blistering forward runs and can also deliver some quality crosses into the box. However, what really makes the 30-year-old stand out is that Bipin can be quite prolific with his finishing in the final third.

He doesn’t succumb to pressure that often in key goal-scoring positions inside the box, having enough composure and variety in his finishing to guide shots past goalkeepers to deliver key goals.

If Bipin can be at his clinical best in terms of finishing off opportunities decisively in and around the opposition penalty box, he’ll significantly enhance East Bengal’s goal-scoring threat and help them torment opponents on counterattacks.

Bipin Singh might not exactly be a ‘goal machine’ who can be expected to score week in, week out – but he definitely rises to the occasion during important matches. The 30-year-old winger was able to prove himself as a clinical winger during his time at Mumbai City FC.

He scored six goals in their ISL double-winning 2020-21 season, which includes crucial goals against Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters in the league stages.

Bipin’s biggest goal in the ISL came when he scored the winning goal for Mumbai City to defeat Mohun Bagan in the 2020-21 ISL final. Bipin scored twice against Mohun Bagan in the 2023-24 season as well, which included in Mumbai City’s 3-1 win over the Mariners in the final at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Singh has proven that he has something special in his arsenal to get at the end of opportunities and clinically score goals in the big games.

He’s versatile enough to be able to score using either his right or left foot, and Bipin’s ability to pick up his performance in major games can significantly help East Bengal take the fight in the pressure ISL games, especially the Kolkata derbies.

The arrival of someone like Bipin Singh will have a positive impact on the East Bengal dressing room, because he’s a serial winner who has won some major titles with Mumbai City. The 30-year-old winger won two ISL League shields and two ISL cup titles with the Islanders and also played key roles in those successes.

He has two ISL final goals to his name and is driven to work that extra hard to help his side win games and compete for major titles. As a result, East Bengal are finally getting an Indian player who not only brings a ton of experience but also a never-say-die attitude and sheer hunger to win trophies.

This will reflect positively on many of the East Bengal players, as Bipin can drive them to work that much harder to win matches and grind their way to compete for top titles.

Bipin’s inclusion should definitely elevate the winning mentality in the East Bengal camp, and he can be an influential figure in helping them win something big in the foreseeable future.
