X (formerly known as Twitter is a platform where a lot of reactions, discussions, debates and opinions about Indian football are hosted. As of 2024, here are the top five most followed Indian football players on X:

The versatile midfielder for Mohun Bagan Super Giant has 12,000 followers on X. Despite a smaller following compared to others on this list, he is a key player for both club and country.

He is a product of the AIFF Elite Academy. He has represented various clubs like Chennaiyin FC, where he played 103 matches and spent most of his time. Thapa has also turned out for Minerva Punjab (loan).

4. Sahal Abdul Samad

Sahal Abdul Samad is known for his dribbling skills and pace. Sahal, who plays for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, has 51.5k followers on X. His exciting playing style has earned him a dedicated fanbase.

He was the poster-boy at his previous club Kerala Blasters, where he was a fan-favourite. He is considered one of the promising young players in the Indian football team.

3. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu

He’s the first-choice goalkeeper for the national team and Bengaluru FC. Gurpreet is widely considered one of the best Indian goalkeepers of all-time.

Sandhu has earned 76.8k followers on X. His career includes notable achievements such as being the first Indian to play in the UEFA Europa League.

2. Sandesh Jhingan

A solid defender for both FC Goa and the Indian national team, Jhingan has 156k followers on X. He is a proven player at both club and international level. He’s played for various clubs across India and was a fan-favourite during his stint with Kerala Blasters.

In 2014, he received both the Indian Super League Emerging Player of the Year and All India Football Federation Emerging Player of the Year awards.

1. Sunil Chhetri

The legend himself! He is the most followed Indian footballer on X with 1.85m followers. The former India skipper retired from international football recently.

Chhetri is also one of the most celebrated footballers in India, holding records as the most-capped player and the highest goalscorer for the national team. With countless titles to his name, he is an individual who needs no introduction.
