Tajikistan U-23 edge past India U-23 in a hard-fought encounter

A night that Indian football fans would rather forget, as India U-23 went down 1-0 to Tajikistan U-23 in a fiercely contested clash in Yupia. Despite the narrow scoreline, Tajikistan looked the stronger side for large parts of the game, appearing superior both physically and technically while controlling key moments of the contest.

While a few Indian players struggled to make their mark and delivered below-par performances, others stood out with determined displays that kept India’s hopes alive until the final whistle.

With plenty to analyse from an intense and hard-fought encounter, let us now take a closer look at the player ratings from the match.

India U-23 Player Ratings

Mohan Raj – 8/10

One of the rare bright spots for India U-23 in a tough outing against Tajikistan U-23. Pulled off 3–4 brilliant saves, including multiple crucial one-on-one stops, and did everything possible to keep India in the contest till the very end.

Harsh Palande – 6.5/10

A difficult outing for Harsh Palande, who looked shaky at the back for most parts of the game. Defensively, he never quite seemed settled and struggled to inspire confidence, with Tajikistan frequently finding joy down his side.

Hnamte – 6.5/10

The captain was present and worked hard on the field, but he was unable to truly stamp his authority on the midfield. India struggled to gain control in the centre of the park, and Hnamte could not dictate the tempo or provide the composure needed to turn the tide.

Pramveer – 6/10

A night to forget for Pramveer at the heart of India’s defense. The centre-back looked extremely shaky throughout, never appearing comfortable under pressure. His body language was poor and at times visibly negative, which seemed to reflect the difficult evening India endured.

He also appeared to lose his temper in key moments, and overall it was a horrendous outing from the defender.

Suhail Bhat – 6.5/10

Suhail Bhat put in an honest shift up front and looked eager to make things happen, often trying to do everything possible for the side.

He made a few promising runs and showed intent in attack, but physically he struggled to match Tajikistan’s level, which made it difficult for him to truly influence the game.

Mohammed Sanan – 5.5/10

A disappointing outing for Mohammed Sanan, who never really looked involved in the game. The winger was largely absent from proceedings and struggled to make any meaningful impact in the final third.

After an ineffective display, he was rightly taken off following a poor performance.

Shivaldo – 4/10

A quiet and frustrating game for Shivaldo, who was unable to make any real impact on the contest. He struggled to get involved in key moments and never quite found a way to influence India’s play in attack. Overall, it was an underwhelming performance from the player.

Macarton – 5.5/10

A very difficult outing for Macarton, who looked completely off the pace from the start. He failed to get into the game and struggled to make any impact in his role, leading to his substitution at half-time after an underwhelming first-half display.

Tomba Singh – 5.5/10

After being the goalscorer in the previous game, Tomba Singh had a much tougher outing this time around. He looked completely off in midfield and was unable to influence the game in the way India would have hoped.

A quiet and below-par performance from the midfielder.

Ronney Wilson – 7.5/10

One of the few positives for India U-23 on a difficult night, Ronney Wilson stood out with a strong defensive display.

He made some brilliant last-ditch tackles at crucial moments and played a huge role in keeping India alive in the contest till the end. His commitment and timing in defence were among the bright spots for the side.

Ricky Meetei – 6/10

A decent performance from Ricky Meetei, but nothing particularly standout. He had a few steady moments in the game, yet overall it was not a performance that significantly impacted the contest.

Solid in patches, though not too good on the whole.

Substitutes

Muhammed Ajsal – 4/10

A very underwhelming cameo from Muhammed Ajsal. Coming off the bench, the forward failed to get involved and completely ghosted the game, making little to no impact during his time on the pitch.

Lalremtluanga Fanai – 6.5/10

Lalremtluanga Fanai came on and brought a bit of energy to the side, making a decent impact after his introduction.

He looked willing to get involved and added some fresh legs, but overall he did not do enough to significantly change the course of the game.

Lalthankima – 7/10

Lalthankima made an immediate impact after coming off the bench, bringing energy and intent to India’s play. He kept pushing forward and tried to make things happen in the final stages, showing good urgency.

However, despite the positive intent, he was unable to produce anything too decisive in the end.

Adison Singh – 6.5/10

Adison Singh came off the bench and delivered an on-and-off performance. He had a few positive moments after coming on and looked involved in phases, but his influence on the game remained inconsistent.

While there were flashes of promise, he could not maintain that impact throughout his cameo.

Ebindas – 6/10

Ebindas came off the bench and had a brief but decent cameo. Although he did not feature for long, he looked composed in his limited minutes and added some fresh energy to the side without making any major mistakes. A short but steady appearance overall.
