Unity Cup 2026 India Rival Watch: Jamaica

India will begin their Unity Cup campaign against Jamaica
As the Indian Super League 2025-26 season came to a dramatic conclusion with East Bengal lifting the title on the final day, the curtain has now fallen on club football for this campaign.
Attention now shifts towards the national team as the Blue Tigers prepare to carry the hopes of Indian football fans over the next two months, while clubs continue their battle with the AIFF over their long-term future.
The Blue Tigers were last in action during the March international window, where they defeated the Hong Kong national football team in Kochi during the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
Although India ultimately fell short of securing qualification for the final tournament, the campaign ended on a positive note with Ryan Williams enjoying a dream debut by scoring within minutes in his debut in Indian colours.
Up next, Khalid Jamil and his side face an even bigger challenge as India travels to the United Kingdom for the Unity Cup 2026. The Blue Tigers will compete alongside Jamaica, Zimbabwe and Nigeria in the four-nation tournament. India will begin their campaign against Jamaica, while Zimbabwe and Nigeria face each other in the other semi-final fixture.
Even before the tournament has begun, India has suffered significant setbacks. Anwar Ali has been ruled out due to injury concerns, while Mohun Bagan Super Giant have reportedly refused to release their players as this tournament falls outside the official FIFA international window.
Despite those challenges, Khalid Jamil will look to make the most of the squad available to him, with the 19-man contingent aiming to represent the Indian tricolour with pride in the United Kingdom.
As India prepare for their opening clash, here’s a closer look at Jamaica – their recent form, head coach and key players ahead of the Unity Cup encounter.
Recent form

Jamaica head into the tournament on the back of heartbreak in their most recent outing after suffering defeat to DR Congo in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup inter-confederation playoffs. Former Manchester United academy defender Axel Tuanzebe scored the decisive goal in the final.
Despite that setback, the Reggae Boyz have enjoyed a strong run of form overall in recent months. Before the defeat against DR Congo, Jamaica had registered four wins and two draws, with wins against teams such as Grenada, Martinique, and New Caledonia.
However, Jamaica have travelled to the Unity Cup with a significantly weakened squad. Several established first-team players, including Ethan Pinnock, Mason Holgate, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Leon Bailey, Demarai Grey, and Michail Antonio, have been rested and left out of the squad.
Who is Jamaica’s head coach?

Jamaica are currently being managed by interim head coach Rudolph Speid, who has overseen the national side for the last four matches. Speid took charge in December when he replaced former England and Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren after Jamaica failed to secure automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Under Speid, Jamaica have won three of their four matches, with the only defeat coming in the playoff final against DR Congo. Although his appointment was initially temporary until the end of the playoffs, the Jamaican Football Federation has extended his tenure through the Unity Cup.
Players to Watchout
Joel Latibeaudiere

The Doncaster-born defender, who graduated from the Manchester City academy, was part of the England side that won the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India. He later switched allegiance to Jamaica and made his official senior debut during the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup against the United States.
After recovering from an injury he sustained earlier this season, Joel played an important role for Coventry City during their promotion push in the EFL Championship. With several senior defenders absent from the Unity Cup squad, Latibeaudiere is expected to lead Jamaica’s defensive unit and could prove crucial in keeping India’s attack quiet.
Isaac Hayden

Former Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden switched allegiance to Jamaica in 2024 after previously representing England at youth level. Currently playing for Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, Hayden is coming off a strong domestic campaign in English football.
Capable of operating both as a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box presence, Hayden offers tactical flexibility to Rudolph Speid’s setup. He can also drop into central defense when required, making him an important asset to team’s tactical set-ups during transitions.
With players like Kasey Palmer absent from the squad, Hayden will be expected to take on greater responsibility in midfield and establish himself as one of Jamaica’s key performers during the Unity Cup.
