Farukh Choudhary stole the limelight with his majestic chip goal.

India played out an entertaining 1-1 draw against Vietnam in their international friendly clash at the Thien Truong Stadium, Nam Dinh on Saturday (October 12). The hosts dominated the majority of the first half, seeing a penalty saved by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu early on before they took the lead through Bui Vi Hao’s strike in the 38th minute.

But India came out in spirited form after the break. Farukh Choudhary scored a beautiful equalizer in the 53rd minute to bring his side back into the game. Despite some nice attacking display, the Blue Tigers failed to score the second goal. They saw out a late flurry from Vietnam to scratch out a draw in the first away game under Manolo Marquez. Here are the India Player Ratings for the game.

India Player Ratings

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu – 7.0

Gurpreet was quite sharp in goal against Vietnam’s speedy attackers. Saved the penalty brilliantly, even though he could’ve done better in denying the opening goal. Made a few nice reflex stops after that to frustrate the hosts.

Asish Rai – 6.5

Rai was quite proactive in the wing-back role and worked to neutralize Vietnam’s attacking moves throughout the game. Made a few vital tackles and won quite a few duels, but started running out of steam towards the end.

Rahul Bheke – 4.5

Bheke had a poor start to the game, making a horrible foul leading to Vietnam’s penalty. A bit shaky with his defensive work after that, looking nervous with his defending and failing to impose his authority properly.

Anwar Ali – 7.5

Anwar looked really comfortable in the three-man centre-back system. Used his clever position to get the team out of trouble multiple times. He made a few key blocks and clearances in the first half. Regained his composure in the second half to win some key challenges and made a heroic goal-line block towards the end.

Subhasish Bose – 5.5

Bose was back playing in the left-sided centre-back role, but he didn’t really look that commanding. Made some nice clearances, but often lost duels and reacted a bit slowly to Vietnam’s attacks.

Naorem Roshan Singh – 4.5

Roshan had trouble against Vietnam’s movement and speed through his side. He was often caught in bad positions and failed to stop their delivery through the wide areas. Couldn’t really impose himself going forward, failing to create big chances.

Lalengmawia Ralte – 6.0

Apuia did a pretty good job in moving the ball around, but he couldn’t really provide that much defensive prowess. He couldn’t stop Vietnam’s fast breaks or penetration through midfield. The man could’ve done better in helping his side retain possession.

Suresh Singh – 6.5

Suresh provided a brilliant assist for Farukh’s goal with a nice lobbed pass to set him up. He fought hard to win duels in midfield but was often ousted physically and started running out of energy in the second half.

Brandon Fernandes – 7.5

Brandon ran the show for India in the Vietnam half with grace, using his creativity and intelligence to torment the hosts. He created a host of chances, delivering the ball into key areas and often allowing his teammates to get into the final third. Unlucky not to get an assist after an encouraging display.

Farukh Choudhary – 8.5

In his first appearance for India since 2021, Farukh Choudhary proved why Manolo Marquez brought him into the squad. He was a livewire in the attack, with his clever movement and touches tormenting the Vietnam backline. Scored a beautiful goal with a gorgeous chipped strike and came close to scoring a few times afterwards. He was timing his runs well.

Lallianzuala Chhangte – 6.5

Chhangte had a relatively quiet first half, showing some decent touches before flaring up after the brace. He started creating better chances with his slick final delivery and came close to scoring at times. Just lacked that ruthlessness in the final product despite an energetic display.

Substitutes

Edmund Lalrindika – 6.0

Lalrindika couldn’t really inspire a second goal for India, mostly as the Blue Tigers lost control of the game soon after he came on.

Listaon Colaco – 5.0

Made a few nice sprints, but couldn’t really create anything noteworthy. Wasted a big scoring chance in the final minutes after some indecisiveness.

Vikram Partap Singh – 5.5

Had a relatively quiet substitute outing despite showing nice energy in the second half.

Jeakson Singh – N/R

Jeakson helped India to see off the result and ensure they didn’t concede in the final stages.

Aakash Sangwan – N/R

Sangwan had a short cameo and helped stop Vietnam’s chances from the left flank.

Lalrinliana Hnamte – N/R

Hnamte received his India debut in the final minutes of the game.
