[WATCH] Deepak Tangri shows his skills in Mohun Bagan's practice session

The young defensive midfielder has impressed the coach with his efforts.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant hit the training ground in preparation for the Kolkata Derby in the Durand Cup 2024 ahead of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season which commences in less than a month. Although the former was canceled with each side earning a point, the Mariners didn’t take it lightly.

One player, in particular, has impressed the returning Jose Molina. Deepak Tangri was seen running his socks off, bursting out tackles, vying for the ball, and scoring goals in Mohun Bagan’s training session video they shared via their social media handles.

The ISL 2023-24 League Winners’ Shield victors have a long way to go if they are to retain the Durand Cup trophy. Although they won with undoubted dominance, scoring seven goals and conceding none, they haven’t faced any I-League or ISL side in the competition yet.

Tangri’s performance

Molina’s men have been prioritizing their defensive shape and Tangri has been a highlight in the same. Tangri started at centre-back for the Mariners in their 6-0 rout of Indian Air Force FT, but his passing and play with the ball at his feet were solid.  

Tangri’s primary issue has been his disciplinary record, as the destroyer often targets the man instead of the ball. Choosing to deal with situations more with his brawn than his brains has got him in trouble in the past but this season he will hopefully rectify that.

He played the entirety of the game against Indian Air Force and was prudent with his decision-making, not going into the book even once.

After having been under the tutelage of multiple class defenders, it is time to witness his evolution. Antonio Habas and Juan Ferrando trusted his abilities, but it might be under Jose Molina that he matures into the final product that he is touted to become.
