Weekly Transfers Roundup: Chennaiyin sign Jobby Justin, Kerala Blasters sign Luna

The previous week saw a number of top foreigners leaving Indian shores.

The transfer window is open and Indian football clubs are fairly active in terms of transfers, so as to prepare for the upcoming season. There have been new arrivals, extensions and departures in the previous week. 

The next season of the Indian Super League and the I-League offers to be full of excitement, considering the deals in the market ahead of them.

The previous week also had several important moves to report. Here is a quick recap of all the transfer activity in the weekly transfer roundup.

Indian Super League

Hyderabad FC

The Nizams saw their influential striker Aridane Santana leave for new opportunities. The Spaniard has moved back to his home country, joining third-division club UD Logrones. Hyderabad FC have already brought in Bartholomew Ogbeche who could become his ideal replacement.

Hyderabad FC is home to several top-level young Indian players and Aniket Jadhav will be joining the group. The striker has signed for the club on a three-year deal and will add further attacking firepower to Manolo Marquez’s side. 

Chennaiyin FC

Jobby Justin
Jobby couldn't play in the ISL last season due to an injury

Chennaiyin FC have signed Jobby Justin from ATK Mohun Bagan. The Marina Machans have made several changes to change their fortunes, which includes bringing in new head-coach, Bozidar Bandovic. Justin has previously played for clubs like East Bengal and ATK Mohun Bagan and could turn out to be the Marina Machans secret weapon in the next season. 

Kerala Blasters

Kerala Blasters have announced the signing of Adrian Luna. The Uruguayan midfielder will make his debut in Indian football from next season onwards. The 29-year-old last played for Melbourne City in the A-League in Australia. He will add a lot of flair and creativity to the southerners' squad, who are desperate for improvement in the next edition of the ISL. 

Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC is among the Indian football clubs who have been fairly active in terms of transfers. In the previous week, the club announced the arrival of midfielder Jayesh Rane and attacker Danish Farooq. Rane joins the club on a three-year deal ahead of the AFC Cup Playoffs, while Farooq signed a two-year contract.

One of the most versatile Indian players of his generation, Rane has previously played for the likes of Chennaiyin FC and ATK Mohun Bagan. Farooq will join BFC after impressing for Real Kashmir in I-League 

FC Goa

FC Goa extended Sanson Pereira’s contract, ensuring his stay with the club until 2024. The defender was very impressive in the recent AFC Champions League matches, starting all six of the games.

The 23-year-old is a highly rated upcoming full back and signing an extension with the Gaurs will help his development by playing at the highest level. 

Odisha FC

Cole Alexander
Alexander was one of the best performers for Odisha FC last season

The Juggernauts' influential midfielder Cole Alexander left the club with mutual consent. The South African made 15 appearances for the Juggernauts in the 2020/21 season.

“I want to thank everyone at Odisha FC for the opportunity. Thanks to all my teammates, it was a privilege to be with the side and play with you guys. It was a joy being in India experiencing different cultures. This was a difficult decision to make but this is for my family so that I can be with them,” he said in a statement.

I-League

Gokulam Kerala FC

I-League clubs have also been active in the world of Indian football transfers Reigning I-League champions Gokulam Kerala FC brought in Akbar Khan from NEROCA FC. The 22-year-old was impressive in the 2020-21 season after featuring in 11 games for the Orange Brigade. This is a step up for the defender who would like to use the transfer as a platform to continue his growth. 

NEROCA FC

NEROCA FC completed the signing of Hrishikesh Namboothiri on a one-year deal. The 18-year-old promising attacker will make his debut in the I-League in the upcoming season after signing for the Orange Brigade.

This is his first professional contract with any football club. The club is looking ambitious ahead of the 2021/22 season. Apart from Hrishikesh Namboothiri, the club have also signed midfielder Manisana Singh from Jamshedpur FC.
