A shocking development has emerged in the sports sector, as the newly promoted side, Diamond Harbour FC, might face an investigation.
West Bengal Sports Minister Nisith Pramanik has confirmed that an investigation has been launched against Diamond Harbour FC after many allegations and complaints regarding the Kolkata outfit.
Diamond Harbour FC just earned automatic promotion after a great season in the Indian Football League 2025-26, and they are now set to play in the upcoming Indian Super League. And from this situation, many allegations and a bunch of complaints are on the cards; the main complaint was against their home training ground in Salt Lake.
The ground opposite the Central Park Metro Station, which serves as Diamond Harbour FC’s training facility, has become the centre of the controversy.
Several complaints have been lodged alleging the illegal occupation of the ground. Addressing the issue, West Bengal Sports Minister Nisith Pramanik recently held a press conference and spoke about the matter.
Troubles for Diamond Harbour FC
Abhishek Banerjee, the chief patron of the respective side, is a widely known All India Trinamool Congress face. Following the recent political changes in the state, the club has come under increased scrutiny, with several complaints and allegations prompting calls for an investigation into its operations and activities.
Nisith Pramanik stated, ” Diamond Harbour FC is a football club of Abhishek Banerjee. The way it has been formed, we have seen many glitches in it. Many complaints have been filed. See, the ground on which Diamond Harbour FC is practicing, there have been many complaints.”
“And we have also spoken to the IFA. We have received many complaints in this regard. It has to be investigated thoroughly. There is also a financial complaint. And along with that, many players have been brought there who are government employees. And not only that, but there are also many questions regarding the outsourcing of funding.”
“We will keep an eye on it and investigate it”
The Sports Minister further stated, “The way the ground was encroached illegally, we immediately removed the illegal branding. And along with that, the ground was also cleared. And in the future, we are monitoring it.”
“We will keep an eye on it and investigate it. Definitely, if there are any inappropriate things, whether it is in the sports sector or any other sector, we will never allow it. It will definitely be investigated.”
What will be the future?
After taking note of all the allegations raised against Diamond Harbour FC during the press conference, the new Sports Minister confirmed that he has also brought the matter to the attention of the relevant sports authorities.
“Definitely, the investigation has started from the Ministry. And we are also discussing this with the AIFF, and also with the Indian Football Association.”
“And very soon, we will come to a conclusion. And if such a club is not run properly, then the situation will be decided.”
As per sources, the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) has also been informed about the matter. And the legal investigation is expected to begin before the new ISL season.
