The SC bench heard the observations of the Amicus Samar Bansal in the recent hearing.

The observations from Amicus Curiae Samar Bansal in regard to proposed changes in the draft constitution for the All India Football Federation (AIFF) were heard by the Supreme Court of India on April 23.

The apex court heard Mr. Bansal’s observations on all the recent proceedings held in front of the bench consisting of Justices PS Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi.

After hearing all the observations, the SC bench set to continue hearing the arguments in the case on April 24 at 3 PM.

As Amicus Curiae, Mr. Samar Bansal is the court-appointed lawyer. He was permitted by the court to offer information, expertise, or insight that could help the court reach a decision on the AIFF draft constitution case.

In his observations as amicus, Mr Bansal recapped and shared his thoughts on the term durations of office bearers, promotion-relegation, MRA, and the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL).

He also argued that the arguments made for bringing in FIFA’s normalisation committee were exclusively for crisis situations. He shared his thoughts in front of the bench that it was a foreign body.

While talking about the arguments on the normalisation committee, Bansal stated, “That’s a foreign body. I’m not in favour of bringing them in, because they are adequately obnoxious,”.

SC bench indicates immediate elections following drafting of new AIFF constitution

AIFF
The AIFF draft constitution could be a game-changer for Indian football.

During the observations made by Mr. Bansal, the SC bench indicated the urgency of conducting fresh elections as soon as the new constitution comes into effect.

The bench observed while stating, ‘Once it (draft constitution) is put in, let me be, direct what they have done for BCCI, ask somebody, whichever way, whichever manner, that the election must take place. Once the fix is in place.’

The SC bench did take the suggestions from the amicus and is gearing up to hear the final argument from Additional Solicitor General of India, Mr. KM Nataraj, regarding the AIFF draft constitution representing the Union of India on April 24.
