India and Hong Kong face each other on the 10th of June 2025
The Indian Football Team will be preparing for their next 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifier with a crucial fixture against Hong Kong on the 10th of June, 2025
With Manolo Márquez‘s men having had an unpleasant start to the qualifiers campaign with a draw against Bangladesh, they will be looking to improve and start securing the wins. Especially after a defeat against Thailand, the stakes for this fixture become even higher.
Indian Football Team have faced off against Hong Kong on a total of 5 occasions in their history. Out of that, they have won only one game and lost on 2 occasions, while the remaining 2 ended in a draw. But when it comes to the most recent encounter between these two sides, the Blue Tigers had defeated Hong Kong in an intense match.
India had comfortably secured a victory over Hong Kong in their last fixture
When India and Hong Kong met each other the last time on the pitch, the Blue Tigers delivered an incredible performance, securing a dominating 4-0 victory. The goals were scored by Anwar Ali, Sunil Chhetri, Manvir Singh, and Ishan Pandita, all finding the back of the net to seal the crucial win.
It took less than a minute for a young Anwar Ali to break open the deadlock for the Indian team. This first goal came after a short corner kick from Udanta Singh, who passed a cross. The Hong Kong defense failed to clear the cross,s which allowed Anwar Ali to comfortably pass the ball into the top of the goalpost.
But after a slow start, Hong Kong’s team, which was led by Jorn Anderse,n started playing in a much better way. They were creating more chances as the first half went on.
The second goal came skillfully from Sunil Chhetri with Akash Mishra’s free-kick, where he took it down with his right foot mid-air and then shot it to the back of the net with his left foot
Inside the penalty box, Manvir Singh received a cross and he shot a powerful goal that buried the ball in the net, pushing the game into Team India’s favour.
Finally, at the 90+4′ minute, Team India started a swift counter-attack, and the perfect cross from the right flank found Ishan Pandita, who replaced Ashique Kuruniyan, made no mistake in converting the cross to a goal and extended India’s lead to four goals.
This game’s result saw Team India finish at the top of Group D in the Asian Qualifiers in 2022.
Blue Tigers will be eager to get back to winning ways
The main aim for the Blue Tigers will be to improve their standings in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The Blue Tigers were held to a goalless 0-0 draw by Bangladesh in the opening game of their AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier in their earlier games.
After a frustrating defeat to Thailand in the International FIFA friendly, Team India will need to be clinical in the final third and convert their opportunities clinically to secure a win. Additionally, they will need to maintain a really strong defensive shape as well.
However, for the Indian Football Team to defeat Hong Kong is not going to be easy and will require a collective and team effort from the Blue Tigers.
