When is Indian men’s football team's next match after Intercontinental Cup 2024 defeat?

The Blue Tigers will be in action soon after their disappointing display in the Intercontinental Cup.

Indian men’s football team under Manolo Marquez’s leadership suffered a demoralizing defeat against Syria in the 2024 Intercontinental Cup on Monday, 9 September 2024. Losing the match by 3-0 was a big blow, especially after a disappointing goalless draw with Mauritius in the tournament’s opening game. 

Despite the poor outcome, it can be argued that the FC Goa and the Indian football team’s head coach did not get enough time to find the ideal balance to produce positive results.

However, he will look to build towards the upcoming fixtures during the October international break against Vietnam and Lebanon. It will also be interesting to see how he balances the club and the national team duties as the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season will be underway by then.

As it stands, the Indian men’s football team will be back in action for the upcoming 2024 Tri-Nation series. The tournament starts from 9 October onwards. India will play the hosts Vietnam in the opening fixture followed by a meeting with Lebanon at the Thien Truong Stadium.

Looking for a win

Indian men’s football team is on a poor run of results. Failing to win against Mauritius and Syria was in line with the trend of negative results that fans have grown tired of. The last instance when the Blue Tigers won a fixture was against Kuwait at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on 16 November 2023. 

Getting close to going a whole calendar year without a single official win is going to make the players nervous. However, the stark reality is that the Blue Tigers must improve the quality of their performances quickly. Manolo Marquez has the mighty difficult task of delivering positive results in a short period to justify his appointment as the head coach. 

Hence, the upcoming 2024 Tri-Series becomes an important opportunity for the Indian football team to give their fans some reason to celebrate. Indian football enthusiasts will be eagerly waiting to see the Blue Tigers back in action in October 2024 when they travel to Vietnam.
