This is the inaugural edition of Super League Kerala

The much-awaited Super League Kerala is all set to unveil its first edition on Saturday. The Kerala-based men’s professional franchise football league is organized by the Kerala Football Association, Scoreline Sports and the Unifed Football Sports Development Pvt. Ltd and will see six teams go up against each other for the elusive trophy.

Surprisingly, the league has seen the arrival of ISL-winning head coach John Gregory, who is the new manager of Malappuram FC, alongside former Indian International Anas Edathodika. Former ISL winner Raphael Augusto and I-league greats like Alex Sanchez and C.K. Vineeth will also participate in the championship.

Interestingly, the league is India’s only domestic league which has allowed the participation of overseas players. Teams can register a maximum of six foreign players but can field only four at a time, a rule which is very similar to the Indian top-flight league. The opening day clash will witness Forca Kochi go head-to-head against Malappuram FC.

The first game will kick off at 8:00 PM at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi following an extravagant opening ceremony in the presence of Jacqueline Fernandez, drummer Sivamani and musician Stephen Devassy.

The league will serve as the bridge to help more young players to be a part of the Indian Super League (ISL) and showcase their talent on the national stage. It will also help budding footballers from all over God’s beautiful country play alongside and under some of the finest footballers and managers who have ever graced the game.

Star Sports Network has been awarded the broadcasting rights for the first edition of the championship. Viewers in India can watch the league on the Star Sports First TV channel and can live stream the match on Disney+ Hotstar. Viewers from the Middle East can access all the live action on the ManoramaMAX streaming platform.
