Where and how to watch ISL 2024-25 in Australia?
This will be the eleventh edition of the Indian Super League
The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season is set to kick off on September 13. This will be the 11th grand season of the coveted league, where 13 premium sides will lock horns to emerge as the best club in India.
The glamorous league will be bigger than ever, with 13 teams now, after last season’s I-League champions Mohammedan Sporting Club achieved promotion to the first tier of Indian professional football. Another Kolkata club, Mohun Bagan Super Giant will start off the proceedings, as the defending champions will host Mumbai City FC in the campaign opener.
This new season is brand new in many aspects for Indian football. Firstly, from now on no team will be bound to field a minimum of one player from an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) affiliated nation. Secondly, the salary cap for Indian players have increased to a mammoth 18 crores from Rs. 16.5 crores last season.
New changes also include a red-card appeal system which will help teams request a review for what they might feel is a wrong decision in terms of player dismissal. Additionally, there has also been an inclusion of a “home-grown player” category which will see three Indian players (in one bracket each allowed for every club) who have been part of a club for three years or more to be exempted from the league’s current salary cap.
