The 20-year-old striker was the top scorer for the Malabarians in the 2019-20 Indian Women’s League.
Gokulam Kerala FC have renewed the contract of Goan striker Karishma Purushottam Shirvoikar for the upcoming season.
The player, who has represented India three times this year in friendlies, was the Indian top scorer for Gokulam Kerala FC’s famous IWL 2019-20 win. She scored six goals that season.
The 20-year-old striker is known for her speed and agility. She has an eye for goal as she made a formidable partnership with then Gokulam’s striker Sabitra Bhandari to handover the Malabarians its first title.
“I am so proud to be part of the club again. I am waiting to be part of the club’s camp in Kozhikode and hope we could make our country proud in the AFC Women’s Club Competition,” said Karishma.
“Karishma is a young upcoming player. We are in the process of completing the other signings also as we need to prepare well for the AFC,” said VC Praveen the president.
Gokulam Kerala’s pre-season preparations
The Malabarians lost their star goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan to Iceland-based club Hamar Hveragerdi in April in a major setback. The Indian international played a pivotal role in the club’s Indian Women’s League title success in the 2019-20 season. But Gokulam Kerala have managed to retain the services of Manisha, Michel Castanha, Karishma Shirvoikar and Sabitra Bhandari.
Gokulam Kerala will also play in the AFC Women’s Club Championship later this year and will hope to make an impression in their debut campaign. The tournament will be played in November. Led by head coach Priya PV, the Kozhikode-based outfit are gearing up for the new season.
