Indian Women’s League 2023: Fixtures, format, results & more
The tournament will commence from the 26th of April.
The Indian Women’s League is the top-tier professional football league in Indian football for women, and currently consists of a total of 16 teams. The league was first introduced in 2016, and has since been a major contributor, towards the progress and betterment of women’s football in the nation.
This year also, the Indian Women’s league is back, and the competition is set to start from the 26th of April, with the group stages continuing till middle of May. Also, the AIFF has decided this season to allow teams to recruit three foreign players with a maximum of two allowed on the field at a time.

Format
The 16 teams participating in the competition will be divided into two groups of eight. A team present in a particular group, will face every other team in their group, and at the end of all the games, the top four teams from both the groups will qualify for the knockout rounds or the quarter-finals (single-leg).
The teams playing are going to be ranked on points. For a win, a team will get three points, one point for a draw, and none for a loss. At the end of all the games, if two teams are tied on points, then the following criteria are to be followed.
- Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams
- Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams
- Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams
- Goal difference in all group matches
- Goals scored in all group matches
- Penalty shoot-out if only two teams are tied and they met in the last round of the group
- Disciplinary points (yellow card = 1 point, red card as a result of two yellow cards = 3 points, direct red card = 3 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = 4 points)
- Drawing of lots
Also, the top four teams from each group will get direct entry into the Indian Women’s League in the following year or season.
Venue
All matches will be held in Ahmedabad across two stadiums - Transstadia and the Shahibaug Police Stadium.
