Igor Stimac's men are in a must-win situation to lift the friendly tournament title.

After a tepid draw against Singapore in their first friendly of the Hung Thinh tournament, India now face hosts and favourites Vietnam in their second friendly. The Blue Tigers find themselves in a must-win situation to bring the friendly tournament trophy home. The Vietnam vs India match gets underway in a couple of hours from now.

Ashique Kuruniyan scored the only goal for India in the 1-1 draw against Singapore. Vietnam thrashed the same opponents by a 4-0 margin. The Golden Star Warriors are also the highest ranked (97) FIFA nation in the three-nation friendly tournament.

Igor Stimac's men though can take solace in the fact that they created ample goalscoring opportunities against Singapore and could have won by the same margin of goals as Vietnam if not more. India must beat Vietnam to win the Hung Thinh tournament. The hosts, on the other, need only a draw.

India head coach Stimac hinted at the possibility of a change in approach against Vietnam.

“It will be a very different game against a much stronger opponent, so our approach will also change accordingly,” Stimac said on the eve of the match. “We need to be more focused, especially on vertical football and quick transition.

“At the same time, we must maintain focus on our defence as well. They pose a real threat from long-range shots, and from their crosses, and we need to be able to deal with that,” he added.

He closely followed the match between Vietnam and Singapore and is aware of the threat the Golden Star Warriors pose. “I’ve watched their first match against Singapore and they (Vietnam) are a very disciplined side,” said Igor Stimac. “They have also had enough time after the first game for recovery, while we need to see how many of our boys will be available and fit to play.”
