FIFA launch investigation into alleged racist abuse of IShowSpeed at World Cup 2026 match

The incident involving IShowSpeed took place during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde round of 32 clash.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is now entering the quarterfinal phase. Only eight teams remain to battle it out all out for the prestigious trophy. This year, the mega competition is being hosted by three nations: Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Irrespective of the continents or competition, major tournaments consistently promote campaigns against racism and discrimination. Despite these efforts, isolated incidents of discriminatory behaviour continue to spoil the integrity of the sport.
One such incident has now come under the spotlight during the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026. This has thus prompted FIFA to launch an investigation into claims of racist abuse towards the well-known American streamer and content creator, IShowSpeed.

FIFA launches investigation
FIFA have mentioned that they were made aware of an incident which allegedly took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 03. It was during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde round of 32 fixture and as per the world governing body of football, they have immediately initiated an investigation.
The content creator, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr has been consistently livestreaming matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026. The 21-year-old was present during the knockout stage game at the Miami Stadium. On his YouTube channel, Speed can be seen in a confrontation with an Argentine fan in the stands.
The American streamer was wearing a Cape Verde kit. The supporter donning the Argentina jersey said to Speed, “Go cry to the zoo”.
After this matter came into the light FIFA came up with a statement and said, “FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society.”

Recently, another racist incident came to light where France’s star forward Kylian Mbappe labelled the Paraguayan senator, Celeste Amarilla, as “despicable” and unworthy of her current position.
Later, Amarilla deleted her problematic post, but has mentioned that she is not apologetic for her reactions.
