FC Goa officially launched their grassroots foundation “The Forca Goa Foundation” during their last home game.
The Foundation is a unique venture which aims to use football as a vehicle for positive and sustainable development in the state of Goa and to help youth from across the state to develop into professionals while being active and contributing citizens to society.
The team sported a special edition of the FC Goa jersey to show their solidarity and create awareness around the foundation in Goa as well as in India. Virat Kohli, the co-owner of FC Goa was present for the launch and was also sporting the same jersey. The Indian National Cricket team captain, along with Akshay Tandon and Jill Ferguson, MD, Forca Goa Foundation, felicitated the winners of the U-12 Junior Gaurs Girls League Winners, another initiative of the foundation. This was the first time in Goa that girls at this age level had been given a platform to participate in a state-wide league.
Akshay Tandon shared his delight in announcing the foundation on the big stage, something that had been silently being built for over a year. “Today is a very exciting day for us,” he gushed. “What we had thought several months ago was that football needs to happen throughout the year. And the idea is that this goes beyond ISL and beyond just football. Even though the foundation has been doing work for well over a year, today we are packaging it in a way where we can announce it to the world and make it bigger than what we are doing for the foundation.”
Regarding the foundation, the Kohli said, “Being here to announce the Forca Goa foundation is something which gives me great pleasure. I, myself believe in nurturing talent from a very young age in different aspects of sport in our country. And this is something that gives me great pleasure; to know that I am associated with a foundation that believes in the same.”
He further added, “Football is a massive part of the culture in Goa. There is no better place in our country to create that awareness, create that buzz to come to a place where the youngsters can be nurtured and made into world-class athletes. So, I am really delighted to officially announce it today.”

It’s a vast change and Sergio (Lobera) has done an amazing job with the team. It shows on the field, in the way the team plays. Having the maximum number of goals is obviously very exciting.”
