Subrata Paul once again the rock as Jamshedpur seal vital win against NorthEasdt United
(Courtesy : ISL Media)
The Men of Steel's defensive solidity has been a hallmark of their season and it came to the fore once again.
It was a moment of individual brilliance from Wellington Priori, a spectacular goal from an overhead kick that decided the fate of the match as hosts Jamshedpur FC edged out NorthEast United FC 1-0 in front of a vocal home crowd and closed in on a remarkable play-off place in their debut season. The Highlanders were the better side and had 61% possession in the game to boast about, but as has been the story so far, they were yet again punished for not making the best of their chances
Watch: Jamshedpur FC 1-0 NorthEast United highlights
Here’s how the Indian players on both sides rated:
Jamshedpur FC
Subrata Paul 8.5/10
Subrata save
Much of the credit for Jamshedpur FC keeping a clean sheet goes to their veteran custodian. He made three big saves in the 1st half that allowed his team go level at the break. Also came out well for crosses and long balls making 5 catches and 4 punches.
Souvik Chakrabarti- 5.5
The right back didn’t have an excellent game, clearly struggled against the pace of Maic Sema especially in the 1st half. Didn’t offer much going forward.
Yumnam Raju- 6.5
The left back did his defensive duties well, didn’t allow the opposition much joy along his flank as through the other. Barring a couple of instances didn’t give Seminlen Doungel much space in the final third to exert his influence. Went off injured.
Bikash Jairu- 5.5
Tried hard to make things happen for his side, including making runs in behind the opposition defence but without much luck. In the 1st half delivered a superb cross into the box after a brilliant run from inside his own half, his involvement dwindled after the Highlanders started dominating possession.
Jerry Mawimihthanga- 7.0
The young lad put in a high energy performance, kept running for almost the entire length of the match. With the Highlanders dominating possession, the 20 year old didn’t get to contribute offensively, but willingly dropped to midfield to win the ball back for his side, making a team high of 6 tackles in the process. In the dying embers 0f he game, he slipped a brilliant through ball that got Farukh one-on-one against Rehenesh.
Ashim Biswas- 4.0
Making only his 3rd start of the season, the veteran forward was pretty ordinary in his time on the pitch. He was no match for the physical centre back pairing of the opposition and struggled to provide any quality whenever he had the ball. Rightfully subbed off at half time.
Substitutes
Mehtab Hossain- 6.5
Came on at half time to replace Ashim Biswas, his introduction changing the dynamic of the side allowing the likes of Wellington the license to roam. Mehtab did his job well, tidying up the space in front of his defence and not allowing the opposition forwards much space to play their passes.
Farukh Choudhary- 6.5
The young lad came on in the 74th minute and gave the NEUFC defence some nervy moments with fellow substitute Kervens Belfort in tandem. Farukh looked extremely confident on the ball in his cameo and after making a good run and latching on to a through ball could’ve made it 2-0 in the dying moments of the match when his shot from close range, was brilliantly saved by Rehenesh.

TP Rehenesh- 6.5/10
Rehenesh save
Had very little to do the whole game, couldn’t do anything about the goal, a wonder strike from Wellington. Made a very good save towards the end that kept the score at 1-0
Nirmal Chettri- 6.5
Nirmal chance
Gave away the ball at times but got stuck in but defended well for most of the match, keeeping the speedy Bikash Jairu in check. Didn’t get forward much with the ball. Could’ve scored from close range following a corner had he directed his header on target
Robert Lalthlamuana- 7.5
Robert Lalthlamuana post-Jamshedpur FC interview
Making the starting eleven after a substantial gap, the Mizo left back had a decent game that might trigger some fresh thoughts in the mind of Avram Grant. Robert moved the ball around well linking up well with the men upfront and finishing with a pass completion rate of 71%. He did not forsake his defensive duties however, tidying up his side of the defence making 7 tackles.
Rowllin Borges- 7.0
The Indian international has now started to strike up a partnership with Martin Diaz in the centre of midfield. The duo with their secure and quick passing kept the midfield ticking, Rowllin in particular played some gorgeous cross-field balls into the flanks. He also won the ball back for his side in midfield, making 5 tackles
Lalrindika Ralte- 6.5
Ralte shot
Invited unnecessary pressure upon himself when he handled the ball in the opposition penalty box and got a yellow card in the opening 10 minutes. His delivery from set pieces was decent but couldn’t provide anything decisive. Forced Subrata into a low save in the 1st half from a well taken shot with his famous left foot.
Seminlen Doungel- 6.0
Was well-shielded by Yumnam Raju, yet used his excellent movement to still get into good areas but his decision making in the final third was poor at times. Was unlucky to see a blazing shot from his right foot tipped away brilliantly by Subrata in the 1st half.
