Exclusive: I don’t like the teams that park the bus like ATK- Edu Bedia

Under Sergio Lobera FC Goa have managed to strike all the right chords. The entertaining football the Gaurs display has endeared them to both fans and neutrals. One of the key components of Lobera’s system is Eduardo Bedia Pelaez, more commonly known to fans as Edu Bedia. The Gaurs' #23 was vital to the Spaniard's plans' last season and with his help, the Goans managed to reach the playoffs.
This year, as they aim for the title, Bedia’s presence and composure is proving to be even more important. The 29-year-old already has five goals and three assists under his belt this season and has set himself apart from the competition with his amazing passing and feel for the game.
Khel Now sat down for a candid conversation with the Gaurs' ace midfielder where he talked about his side's title chances, his time in Goa, Indian football and more.
Bedia has been an integral part of Sergio Lobera's system this season
With his performance aiding them, Goa are poised to make a second successive playoff appearance. However, the former Barcelona B player is not thinking ahead too much.
“It’s too early to talk about the season. We have to keep playing the same way. It’s too early to talk about playoffs or anything like that," Bedia said.
"Right now, what counts is to keep winning every remaining match and keep training the way we are doing. There is no point in thinking about the playoffs till we are actually there," he added.
The former Racing Santander midfielder had spent most of his playing career in Spain before making the switch to India. “After I spent many years in Spain, I was looking for a change. I got an offer from FC Goa and I took it. I don’t regret making that decision,” Bedia explained.
He was part of the core set of players retained by the Gaurs from the 2017-18 campaign and is delighted that his performances have been recognised. “I am very happy to stay one more year in FC Goa. We have many players who have been retained from last year. That is very good for our style of football and as everyone can see we get along very well on and off the pitch,” He stated.

The former TSV 1860 Munich star feels at home at Goa particularly because he is enjoying the football he is playing. “I am very happy with the coach because I identify myself with his philosophy and with his idea of football. Because of that, I have too much fun on the pitch,” the midfielder asserted.
He continued on the attacking brand of football Goa have brought to the table. “We play a very offensive style of football. I think our supporters enjoy it. We enjoy it and the coach also enjoys it. I don’t like the teams that park the bus like ATK. We have to keep playing our style," he said.

One thing they do is that they not only nurture the footballer, but also try to bring up the player on a personal level."
"I think that is one of the things they have to start doing in India. I think it is only a matter of time before the quality in the players starts coming out,” the 29-year-old concluded on a hopeful note.
