The Odisha FC boss also revealed that he believes his team is a better side than that of last year.
Ahead of his side's next game against Chennaiyin FC, Odisha FC head coach Josep Gombau interacted with the media in a pre-match press conference on Wednesday. Both sides face-off on Thursday evening, on the back of contrasting results, with Odisha FC playing out a goalless stalemate against league leaders ATK in their previous match. Whereas, Chennaiyin FC finally registered their first win, having endured a barren run in the last four games.
After Chennaiyin FC's first win in their league campaign, Josep Gombau expects the Marina Machans to play with more confidence on Thursday.
[KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS]"I think tomorrow will be a very interesting game against a very good side because I like Chennaiyin and what they did in their last game. Every game in the ISL is equal and hopefully, with the work we have been doing so far, I think we can get a good result," Josep Gombau began.
Odisha FC have had the fourth-highest number of shots this season (60), but have only six goals to show in five games, out of which three have been scored by talismanic forward Aridane Santana. However, Josep Gombau didn't seem to think much about his side's exploits in front of goal, despite having created good chances.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News | Article Continues Below"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]"I think it is important to first create chances, then only can we score goals. It is important to work on the crosses and passing. I think six goals in five games is not a very bad stat and hopefully, we can score early in the game tomorrow," the Spaniard added.
One of the two newest entrants in the Indian Super League (ISL), Josep Gombau feels there have been certain positive changes in Odisha FC he has observed. "I think we are a better team (from last year). We are playing every match where 4-5 players who are playing are U-23. Some good players like Jerry (Mawihmingthanga), who have come to play for us and the young players are growing. I'm satisfied and proud of the work that the squad has put in."
Odisha FC face Chennaiyin FC on Thursday evening at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai at 7:30 PM IST.
