The FC Goa assistant coach Jesus Tato also defended Sergio Lobera’s red card and claimed that it was very unfair.

FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC played out the most exciting game of the season so far, as the former clinched an important win away from home and thus reclaimed their spot at the pinnacle of Indian Super League table. However, the game saw Goa head coach Sergio Lobera sent off for his behavior. His assistant Jesus Tato addressed the media after the game.

He started off by saying, “It’s a big win for us. These three points means a lot. We now finish the year as the No. 1 team in the ISL with 21 points.”

He also defended Lobera and added, “I think our coach does not deserve the attention received (today). Our coach, in all the previous press conferences, helped and supported the referees. I read and I listen to all the coaches talk bad about referees, but coach Lobera never said anything to put the blame on them.

“I stayed with the coach during the whole game and he didn’t say anything, We don’t know why the referee gave him the red card. Maybe the fourth official Harish Kundu can explain to us why coach Lobera was shown two yellow cards.”

He then went on to praise his team’s performance in the first half and said, ”We pressed so high in the opponents’ half and carrying the ball in the final third was easier for us. At half-time, coach Lobera warned the team that the game was not over and Chennai have many big players who can turn things around.

“They have experience and they tried to comeback in the first part of the second half or to reduce the deficit. In the second half, we suffered, but our players dominated the ball and scored the fourth goal, which was very important.”

Lastly, when quizzed about the frequent mistakes of conceding goals in the second half by Goa and how does the team plan to improve on it, Jesus Tato answered, “First of all, the credit goes to the Chennaiyin players more than the blame on our players. The quality and mentality of Chennai players is very strong and everyone knows it. They showed great character to come back into the game.”
