The Spaniard spoke on the back of his side’s defeat to Jamshedpur FC on Monday.
“The message at half-time was to give confidence to the players and to tell them that if they create chances they will score,” said Bengaluru FC head coach Carles Cuadrat.
The Blues’ Spanish coach reflected on their second successive defeat, this time at the hands of Jamshedpur FC, thanks to a late Stephen Eze goal. The result put Owen Coyle’s side above Bengaluru in the table.
Observations from the game
“The game was physical, just like the last game against ATK Mohun Bagan. We know the conditions of the league and we accept it. The team was fighting till the very end like the last game to salvage something,” observed Cuadrat.

Suresh Wangjam’s presence
Midfielder Suresh Wangjam was an all-action presence in the game, as he regularly drove forward to support the Bengaluru attack. It did seem that the team were funneling their attacks through the youngster, something that the coach disagreed with.
“We created chances with Sunil (Chhetri), Cleiton (Silva) and our No.9 is doing the job by creating space for the wingers. I am happy with Suresh’s performance, but we have a full squad that can provide us with goals,” pointed out the Spaniard.
Ashique Kuruniyan’s absence proving detrimental?
Owen Coyle’s side regularly peppered the Bengaluru left flank, as makeshift left-back Rahul Bheke filled in for the injured Ashique Kuruniyan. Carles Cuadrat recognized that this could become a point of concern for him in the games going forward.

“We know that we had a player in Ashique who was doing really well for us, who was one of the best in the left-back position in the league. Now, he’s recovering and because of that, we need to use other options. Ajith (Kumar) gives us another option and I want to try him in that position. It’s also a new competition for him and a new position. He will adapt to it step-by-step,” said Carles Cuadrat.

Failing to convert chances
The coach revealed what was said at half-time after the Blues created a truckload of chances, but failed to capitalize on them.
“Football is a game of dynamics. When you score one goal, you have more chances to score the second. When you are missing chances like we were in the first half, we saw that Sunil and Cleiton were disappointed. This was something that I spoke about at half-time to give confidence to the team. It was to tell them that if they keep creating those chances, they can score,” signed off the former Barcelona man.
