The 22-year-old spoke ahead of his side's clash against Bengaluru FC on Saturday.
SC East Bengal’s fortunes in the Indian Super League (ISL) seem to have changed since the arrival of star striker Bright Enobakhare. The 22-year-old has added flair to the Kolkata giants’ attack and also scored twice in the last two matches. East Bengal also registered their maiden win of the season following his arrival, before managing a draw against the mighty FC Goa earlier this week.
Ahead of the Red & Gold’s upcoming match against Bengaluru FC, Enobakhare spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on several topics, including
Next target at club
It is safe to say that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward is enjoying the stint at his new club. “The staff and my teammates are amazing and it feels good to be here. Of course, the ideal way to approach this league would be by taking things step-by-step, by focusing on one game at a time,” he said, when asked about his objectives this season.
Fitness issues
In the 2020-21 season, Enobakhare played for a total of just 14 minutes for AEK Athens, scoring a solitary goal in September 2020. Needless to say, this had resulted in questions being raised about his fitness levels, but the player himself was not too worried about it.
“I think everything will come in place. It's going on and we will see how it goes on till the end of this season,” he replied.
Preferred position
Upon being asked about what he likes more – being a central playmaker or a target man in the starting XI, Enobakhare said that he was willing play in any position.
“I don't mind playing in any position. Scoring does not depend on your position, but on how you play,” he commented.
Goal against FC Goa
In case you missed it, the 22-year-old scored a magical goal against FC Goa, with both fans and experts labeling it as a contender for the ‘Goal of the Season’ accolade. When asked about it, Bright Enobakhare downplayed his brilliance, saying that he has scored similar goals previously too.
“Yes, I have done it before. I think it was during my debut with Wolves, when I was 17. I scored against Barnet and I think that goal was even better than this," he revealed. Meanwhile, he also warned his teammates and stressed that they should not be complacent in future matches, after the side conceded a goal just two minutes following his wonder goal against the Gaurs.
"I think that when I scored, everyone just relaxed. We thought it was all over. Anything can happen in one minute. When it happened against Goa, we realized that the game is still on. So, everyone had to try to get as many points as we could get,” he signed off.
