The defender has prior experience of playing for the Red and Gold Brigade in the I-League.

ATK Mohun Bagan defender Salam Ranjan Singh is in talks with SC East Bengal, Khel Now can confirm.

The 25-year-old joined erstwhile ATK (now ATK Mohun Bagan) in the 2019-20 season, making only four appearances for the team. The defender had earlier played for East Bengal in 2017-18 and 2018-19, being a regular before joining ATK in the Indian Super League. The defender also has prior experience of plying his trade for Pune FC and Bengaluru FC, winning the I-League in the 2015-16 season under Ashley Westwood.

On the other hand, since joining the Indian Super League in the 2020-21 season, SC East Bengal are struggling to find their maiden win. While the Red and Gold Brigade had made a number of defensive signings in the summer, head coach Robbie Fowler is yet to find a trustworthy domestic centre-back, a position which has been often filled by Sehnaj Singh in recent games.

The Kolkata giants have recently parted ways with eight of their Indian players, including defenders Anil Chawan and Md. Irshad. The club are also set to send another defender, Gurtej Singh on loan in the January transfer window.

Our sources close to the developments have confirmed that SC East Bengal are opting for a major revamp of the squad and have identified Salam Ranjan Singh as a target. However, the club are still waiting to agree terms with arch-rivals Mohun Bagan for a loan move.

ATK Mohun Bagan have a number of impressive centre-backs in their squad such as Sandesh Jhingan, Tiri, Pritam Kotal and Sumit Rathi - which implies a January loan move for Salam Ranjan Singh to SC East Bengal could come to fruition.
